Il male era così forte che fui trasportato d’urgenza all’Ospedale Sant’Orsola di Bologna, città in cui ho vissuto per molti anni. Perforazione della cornea. Da quel momento la mia vita è completamente cambiata, Pemfigoide Oculare, una malattia rara e autoimmune, questa fu la diagnosi.
Cambiai vari ospedali e innumerevoli cure ma la malattia progrediva con ulcerazioni sempre più frequenti e tutto il mio sistema immunitario peggiorava, portandomi ulteriori complicanze e malattie. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/68952623_1666789473606119_r.jpg" alt="Image" width="100%" media_type="3" /> Nel 2010 mi sono rivolto alla Clinica San Raffaele di Milano, qui l’equipe del Professor Rama mi affidò al Chirurgo Giorgio Paganoni e all’Immunologa Elena Baldissera. Paganoni negli anni è diventato come un amico e ha cercato in tutti i modi di guarire i miei occhi con innumerevoli trapianti di membrana e ulteriori 6 trapianti di cornea, tutti effettuati con urgenza.
La Dottoressa Baldissera, invece, cercava il farmaco adatto per una terapia immunosoppressiva. Ad oggi, sono passati 23 anni, ho perso il lavoro e tutte le mie abitudini sono cambiate. La malattia mi ha portato alla cecità e al momento l’unica soluzione risulta essere un’operazione molto delicata, la Osteo Odontocheratoprotesi. Un intervento di altissima specializzazione, che prevede l’utilizzo di un mio dente, o dell’osso della tibia, all’interno dell’occhio per poter riacquistare la vista, seppur solamente da quello destro. Il costo è molto elevato e non è supportato dal Sistema Sanitario Nazionale. Per questo motivo sono qui a chiedervi di condividere la mia storia e di aiutarmi, se vi va. L’operazione ha un costo iniziale di 50.000€ oltre ai costi dei viaggi e della degenza all’interno della clinica e spese mediche, per eventuali complicazioni post operazione.  English Hello my name is Vito, I live in Asti but I was born by the sea, in Sicily. I am 50 years old and at the age of 27, while playing football with some friends, I felt a stabbing pain in one eye. The pain was so bad that I was rushed to Sant'Orsola Hospital in Bologna, the city where I lived for many years. Perforation of the cornea. From that moment on, my life changed completely, Ocular Pemphigoid, a rare, autoimmune disease, that was the diagnosis. I changed several hospitals and countless treatments but the disease progressed with more and more ulcerations and my whole immune system worsened, bringing me further complications and illnesses. In 2010, I turned to the San Raffaele Clinic in Milan, where Professor Rama's team entrusted me to Surgeon Giorgio Paganoni and Immunologist Elena Baldissera. Paganoni became like a friend over the years and tried in every way to heal my eyes with countless membrane transplants and a further 6 cornea transplants, all performed urgently. Dr. Baldissera, on the other hand, was looking for the right drug for immunosuppressive therapy. To date, 23 years have passed, I have lost my job and all my habits have changed. The disease has led me to blindness and at the moment the only solution is a very delicate operation, the Osteo Odontokeratoprosthesis.

A very highly specialised operation, which involves using one of my teeth, or the bone of my tibia, inside my eye in order to regain sight, albeit only from the right one. I already had my preliminary examinations in July, and my left eye is not fit as a result of the many operations I have had.

The operation will take place at the Oftalvist Clinic in Barcelona with Dr. María F. de la Paz. The cost is very high and is not supported by the National Health System. That is why I am here to ask you to share my story and help me, if you like.

The operation has an initial cost of 50,000€ in addition to travel and hospitalisation costs within the clinic and medical expenses, for possible post-operation complications.
