Helping Kelly Heal

Do you know a BADASS SUPERHERO? One who would drop everything and move absolute mountains to make sure injustices are turned just, wrongs are made right, and lemons are turned to lemonade - all while nurturing and embracing those who need it most? Well, I do!! Let me tell you about my dear friend Kelly Keigwin. She has a heart that sees or tolerates no hate, a mind that constantly plans and conspires for the greater good,  and a will that’s stronger than any precious metal. She never gives any less than 100% to anybody who is in need of a safe space or warm hug.

And now she needs our help. As many of you know, Kelly was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive endometrial cancer a little over five years ago. There have been times of struggle and times of victory. She has been through multiple surgeries, numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and, most recently, a clinical trial at UW. Right now, she’s facing a new challenge. A few months ago, she developed metastatic tumors in her lungs. With the help of radiation, and a super strong will, those were obliterated. Two weeks ago, we found out it has metastasized to her brain. Once again, she began radiation therapy, but also started having frequent seizures that have made life a bit more difficult. She has been unable to work, leaving her wife, Sam, the sole provider and financial support.

The most important thing for Kelly's body, for her soul, for her overall well-being now is to create a space of healing and rest. So we’re going to create that space through transforming the room in which she'll be spending most of her time! What do we need to do this? We need a couch that is big enough for her loved ones and friends to sit with her, hold her, comfort her - something she can sleep on, that is big enough for her pups to cuddle with her, giving her much needed pet therapy time. We need to surround her with warm, embracing colors, that will help calm her mind and her body. We need to bathe her in love, which we can do by giving her this space where she'll feel at home.

When you donate, you’re helping to provide all of these things. We have someone who is ready to design special furniture, quickly, to help create this space.

There are some very unique pieces of art that Kelly and Sam, artists of extraordinary talent and vision, have created that we will be giving to special level donors. Please check out the photos and contribute an amount with which you’re comfortable.

If we can raise enough, or even go over, the next step is to help with getting a consultation with a super-specialist at OHSU in Portland, Oregon, who has taken on some of the toughest, rarest cases and WON. We want this for Kelly! Her insurance does not cover this, and the constant back and forth trips required  for the clinical trial and treatment in Seattle have put a considerable financial strain on them.

** If you aren't able to donate financially at this time, will you consider donating time? We're going to need some pickup trucks or SUVs, and strong arms and backs to help move things around during the transformation. I'll be updating with some upcoming dates where you can help fill those needs! **

Please be a superhero now for Kelly, a beautiful human who has more than earned her cape!
