My beloved cat, Cole, is in need of expensive medical treatment for a likely case of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). FIP is caused by a mutation in a harmless type of coronavirus found in cat GI tracts. It causes them to lose their appetite, severely lose weight, and is often accompanied by a fever that doesn't respond to antibiotics. There isn't an official treatment for it, but a lot of folks who have had cats with FIP have found success using the drug "GS-441524." However, the cost for the drug is extremely high ($90 per vial and 30 vials are needed), and this is on top of the costs accrued in emergency vet visits. Information on FIP and how GS works can be found <a href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1098612X19825701" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a> . I am currently looking for any help anyone can give with covering the bills for the vet visits and the medication. Below are the four  receipts so far. The last one is for the first month's worth of medication, which will be $900 and Cole will need 3 months of it. A few years ago, I lost my good boy, Jack, an orange tabby who became my shadow after I took him in as a stray. I was devastated. I wasn't sure I could ever get another cat, but I knew there were others that needed homes, so eventually I went into one of the rescues near my daughter's house, intending to adopt another orange tabby to try to fill the void Jack had left. Instead Cole appeared. A literal shadow of a cat, who decided that I needed him to come home with me. And so I took a little ball of void home with me instead of trying to fill it, and we have been inseparable since. Every day when I come home, he is waiting at the door for me, meowing enthusiastically. He will play fetch with me nightly, chasing down these little foam balls with feathers. If he cannot find or get to a ball, he will find things that are... similar.  <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/51382822_1600736731844515_r.jpeg" alt="51382822_1600736731844515_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> Every night I spend time up in my sewing room making quilts or drawing patterns, and Cole is right there on my table. I even made him a special pillow full of fabric scraps to lay on so he could be close and comfy. My husband and I love to go camping, but I didn't want to leave Cole (and his brother, Finn) at home alone when we went, so I just took them along for the ride. Cole cried in the carrier, as cats often do in cars, but when I let him out I found he wasn't crying because he didn't like the car; he was crying because he couldn't get to me. He laid down in my lap and was fine the whole drive. Cole and his brother became Adventure Cats, walking on leashes and hanging out in their cat tent together, and importantly not having to be away from me and my husband. I want, more than anything, to save Cole's life so that I can love him for many more years. I want to continue to hear his "Welcome home, mom!" meows, and sleep with him tucked up against my side, and play fetch with him until we're both arthritic in our old age. I would desperately appreciate help in covering the enormous bills that will entail. Any amount will help soften the impact and lessen the stress surrounding having a very dear pet and friend so ill.
