<img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/46990242_1585384906428864_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="46990242_1585384906428864_r.jpeg" /> At The Maker Society, we are producing 3D printed faceshields to help provide hospitals with additional personal protection equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic.  A 3D Printed Face Shield is a last resort device with the purpose of offering protection from bodily fluids that result from coughing and sneezing in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The design originates from Czech company Prusa Research and is modified by Long Beach based and student-operated company The Maker Society to use readily available and locally sourced materials. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/46990242_158538488521802_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="46990242_158538488521802_r.jpeg" /> The 3D Printed Face Shield is intended for medical professionals but can also be used by individuals who would like an extra degree of protection. Capability Of Production With over 20 FDM printers, The Maker Society is able to produce about 40 of these face shields per day. With increased resources and development, this production rate can easily double by March 31st. While we are in talks with suppliers regarding discounted or donated materials, we currently still have to purchase all goods retail to produce these. The current total material cost per unit for these face shields is roughly $5, however as production scales up, material cost will drop.
