Ken Baldwin, prolific self-employed carpenter and a friend to many in the Deer River and Twin Cities communities, was at a friend’s home working on a tire tractor that unexpectedly exploded in his face. This accident occurred Friday, August 24, 2018. Ken was rushed to the Deer River hospital and from there air-lifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. He was admitted to the Neuro Trauma Intensive Care Unit where he was treated for almost three weeks before being moved to intermediate care. Ken sustained multiple facial fractures, chest and abdominal injuries. He has undergone four surgeries and faces weeks of physical, occupational, and speech therapy. His hospitalization will continue with intense treatment of his injuries and rehabilitation which could last into the next several months. Ken’s eventual recovery where he can return to his home and resume his carpentry business is in the distant future. Fortunately, Ken has MinnesotaCare health insurance and his hospitalization appears to be covered.  This Go-Fund-Me site was initiated to cover unforeseen expenses and loss of income.

As a Go-Fund-Me recipient, after an accident that left me with a traumatic brain injury, I can attest to the value of the Go-Fund-Me system which helped me with paying my bills and loss of income as a self-employed individual. As a close family friend, I have known Ken for many years and am trying to do what I can to help him through his recovery from this horrific accident. - Eddie Owens
