On August 19th, 2021 Matthew and his friends left Sioux Falls, SD to travel to Las Vegas for a guys trip. Nearly 10 hours into their trip, Matthew went into anaphylactic shock, which then caused him to go into cardiac arrest twice. Matthew’s heart stopped for a total of 16 minutes while paramedics tried CPR to bring him back. Due to his heart stopping for such a long period of time, Matthew suffered a stroke, and several areas of his brain are damaged. Matthew is hospitalized in Las Vegas, and his mom is trying to get him transported back to South Dakota where his friends, family, and primary care providers are all located. Matthew is going to need months, if not years of rehabilitation to learn how to talk, walk, eat, and see again.


In order to get Matthew transported back to SD, it will cost at least $30,000 due to insurance issues.


The hospital here in Vegas has been neglecting the right care for Matthew.


He needs physical therapy in order to make sure his brain does not deteriorate anymore than it already has.


Matthew can not move on his own, and without being able to talk, he can not voice his opinions, concerns, and needs. We need to be matthews voice while he can’t do it on his own.


Matthew is able to make a full recovery, but with lack of positive care from the current hospital he is at, he will not get back to who he used to be. We need to get him home where he is well taken care of. Matthew’s mom is going to need to change her entire life around in order to care for Matthew and his needs. She will be unable to return to work, as Matthew will need full, continuous support from her.
