<div>My name is Eduardo Palos, a passionate medical student with a deep love for nature. I have always been dedicated to serving others, and my dream is to become a doctor who makes a real difference in people’s lives. A few months ago, I traveled to Canada to visit family and friends, seeking a break from the overwhelming demands of medical school and work. The beauty of nature there was a much-needed solace. However, what was meant to be a peaceful retreat turned into the most challenging chapter of my life.

<div>One morning, I woke up unable to move my legs. A wave of numbness and weakness made it impossible for me to walk. I thought it might be something temporary—a side effect of my genetic predisposition to poor circulation combined with bad posture. I convinced myself it would pass if I just rested. But as the days went by, my condition worsened. I felt weaker with each passing day, and yet I hesitated to seek medical help, fearing the financial burden that could come with it.

<div>Eventually, concerned friends insisted on taking me to a clinic. There, the doctors quickly realized my condition was beyond their capacity to treat, and I was transferred to a hospital. After further tests and evaluations, the doctors delivered the devastating news: without immediate surgery, I would lose my leg. I agreed to the procedure, unaware that the situation was even more severe than I had imagined.

<div>During the surgery, it was discovered that not only was my leg in danger, but my kidneys had also failed. I needed dialysis and constant medical attention to survive. The days that followed were a blur of uncertainty, fear, and mounting hospital bills.

<div>Thankfully, my health has started to improve. However, I still cannot walk, and my journey to recovery is far from over. Every day, I dream of the moment I’ll stand on my own two feet again, so I can return to my studies and fulfill my mission of helping others through medicine. Yet, the road ahead feels daunting, both physically and financially.

Siempre me he dedicado a servir a los demás y mi sueño es convertirme en un médico que haga una verdadera diferencia en la vida de las personas. Hace unos meses, viajé a Canadá para visitar a familiares y amigos, buscando un descanso de las abrumadoras exigencias de la escuela de medicina y el trabajo. La belleza de la naturaleza allí fue un consuelo muy necesario. Sin embargo, lo que se suponía que sería un retiro tranquilo se convirtió en el capítulo más desafiante de mi vida.

<div>Una mañana, me desperté sin poder mover las piernas. No era novedad que mi familia cuenta con predisposición a varices y mala circulación sin embargo esa mañana sentí una ola de entumecimiento y debilidad me impidió caminar. Pensé que podría ser algo temporal, un efecto secundario quizá el cansancio de largas caminatas y el haber dormido en una postura inconveniente. Me convencí a mí mismo de que pasaría si simplemente descansaba. Pero a medida que pasaban los días, mi condición empeoraba. Me sentía más débil cada día que pasaba, y aun así dudé en buscar ayuda médica, temiendo la carga financiera que podría venir con ello.

<div>Finalmente, mis amigos preocupados insistieron en llevarme a una clínica. Allí, los médicos se dieron cuenta rápidamente de que mi condición estaba más allá de su capacidad de tratamiento y me transfirieron a un hospital. Después de más pruebas y evaluaciones, los médicos me dieron la devastadora noticia: sin una cirugía inmediata, perdería mi pierna. Acepté el procedimiento, sin saber que la situación era aún más grave de lo que había imaginado.

<div>Durante la cirugía, se descubrió que no solo mi pierna estaba en peligro, sino que también mis riñones habían fallado. Necesitaba diálisis y atención médica constante para sobrevivir. Los días siguientes fueron un torbellino de incertidumbre, miedo y crecientes facturas del hospital.

<div>Afortunadamente, mi salud ha comenzado a mejorar. Sin embargo, todavía no puedo caminar y mi viaje hacia la recuperación está lejos de terminar. Todos los días, sueño con el momento en que pueda volver a valerme por mí mismo, para poder volver a mis estudios y cumplir mi misión de ayudar a otros a través de la medicina. Sin embargo, el camino que tengo por delante parece abrumador, tanto física como económicamente.
