<div>Hoi allemaal, ik ben Marloes en ik help Amna uit Libië om haar studie in Maleisië af te maken. Ik woon zelf in Nederland en ik ontmoette Amna omdat ze vrijwilligerswerk had gedaan voor de Tawergha Foundation, waarbij ze ontheemden in Libië hielp, wat gevaarlijk en levensbedreigend werk was. In 2022 is het gelukt om 1300 dollar bij elkaar te verzamelen. Hiermee hebben we Amna flink vooruit geholpen om aan haar studie in Maleisië te beginnen. Op dit moment is zij bezig met haar eindscriptie en in November moet zij haar laatste examens doen. Hiervoor heeft ze 1100 dollar nodig. Amna heeft voor het eerst kunnen genieten van meer vrijheid maar er is nog steeds veel dreiging voor haar omdat er mensen zijn die vinden dat Amna Libië niet had mogen verlaten. Ondanks het reële levensgevaar heeft Amna het afgelopen jaar hoge cijfers gehaald en de professoren zijn onder de indruk van haar doorzettingsvermogen. Ook zij willen heel graag dat Amna afstudeert.

<div>Amna is al 7 jaar mijn vriendin, hoewel er een halve wereld tussen ons in ligt. Amna is moedig, sterk en ik bewonder haar intelligentie en doorzettingsvermogen. Ik schaam me soms voor alle privileges die ik heb in een rijk land waar ik als vrouw heb kunnen studeren wat ik wil. Ik word niet onderdrukt en ik heb alle kansen van de wereld. Ondertussen had Amna een heel zwaar leven in Libië gehad omdat ze een vrouw is. In Libië zijn vrouwen inferieur aan mannen en worden ze vaak mishandeld of misbruikt. Universiteiten in Libië zijn niet van dezelfde kwaliteit als universiteiten in Europa, dus om iets van haar leven te maken, moet ze een masterdiploma in het buitenland behalen. Ik heb Amna gevraagd haar verhaal te vertellen:

<div><em>Ik ben een jonge vrouw die in een door oorlog verscheurd land leeft. Mijn familie en ik behoren tot de honderden burgers die uit onze geliefde woonplaats Benghazi zijn ontheemd vanwege het doorlopende conflict dat onze regio in zijn greep houdt. Toen we gedwongen werden naar Misrata te vluchten, lieten we ons huis, onze bezittingen en een leven vol herinneringen achter. De impact op ons leven is onmetelijk geweest.</em>

<div><em>Ik heb veel pogingen ondernomen om elders een leven op te bouwen, maar het leven als vrouw in Libië is zwaar en mijn financiële situatie en de oorlog maakten het voor mij onmogelijk om te vertrekken. De afgelopen jaren heb ik veel beurzen aangevraagd, maar er waren altijd veel andere aanvragers. Ik gaf echter niet op en mijn ambitie en vastberadenheid bleven sterk en nu ben ik eindelijk aangenomen aan de Nottingham University in Maleisië om Development Management te studeren in september 2023. Ik had genoeg geld gespaard om te gaan, maar ik moest dit geld aan mijn moeder geven voor een belangrijke operatie. Als ontheemde vrouw nam ik de verantwoordelijkheid om mijn gezin economisch te onderhouden. Dit heeft het tot nu toe onmogelijk gemaakt een goede masteropleiding te volgen, wat mijn levenslange droom is en een manier voor mij om te ontsnappen aan het leven als vrouw in Libië. Daarom neem ik contact met je op via deze Go Fund me-campagne. Ik heb hulp nodig om een beter leven te creëren en mezelf te ontwikkelen als een vrije vrouw weg van het patriarchaat.</em>

<div>Hi Everyone, my name is Marloes and I am helping Amna from Libya to gather enough money to finish her study in Malaysia. I live in the Netherlands and I met Amna because she had done volunteer work for the Tawergha Foundation, helping displaced people in Libya, which was a hazardous and life-threatening job. <div>Amna has been my friend for 7 years although we live worlds apart. She is courageous, strong and I admire her perseverance. I sometimes feel ashamed because of all the privileges I have living in a rich country where, as a woman, I can study whatever I want to. I’m not suppressed and I have all the chances in the world. Meanwhile, Amna has a very tough life in Libya because she is a woman. In Libya, women are inferior to men and are frequently maltreated or abused. Universities in Libya are not of the same quality as universities in Europe, so to make something of her life, she needs to obtain a master’s degree abroad. I have asked Amna to tell her story:

My family and I are among the hundreds of civilians displaced from our beloved hometown, Benghazi, due to the unrelenting conflict that has gripped our region. <div><em>I made many attempts to start a life elsewhere but life as a woman in Libya is hard and my financial situation and the war made it impossible for me to leave. In the past years, I applied for many scholarships but there were always many applicants. I didn't give up though and my ambition and determination stayed strong and now, finally, I have been accepted at Nottingham University in Malaysia to study Development Management in September 2023. I had saved enough money to go, but I was forced to give this money away to my mother for her surgery. As a displaced woman, I took the responsibility to support my family economically. This has kept me from getting a proper master's education, which is my lifelong dream and a way for me to escape life as a woman in Libya. This is why I am reaching out to you through this Go Fund me Campaign. I need help to create a better life and develop myself as a free woman away from the patriarchy.</em>
