SUPPORT ROCK N ROLL RETREAT NYC! SUMMER 2020 PROGRAMMING! Creating a braver world through music mentorship, social justice, and radical joy <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/43300692_1574010688391887_r.jpeg" alt="43300692_1574010688391887_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> WHO ARE WE? Rock n Roll Retreat NYC! is a music and social justice program for girls and trans youth living in New York City. We’re budding with excitement to hold our first week of programming this summer. In order to set our ideas in motion, we need your help. This project relies entirely on the support of our community, and that means YOU! WHAT DO WE DO? Our weeklong intensive consists of:  - instrument lessons - songwriting workshops - band practice - arts and crafts - social justice education workshops. The program culminates in a showcase where our campers perform their original music for their family members and other folks in their communities.  Though music is our chosen medium, our goal is not simply to make children better musicians, but rather to cultivate compassionate, empowered citizens of the world who each have a strong sense of justice. Our values of community, fairness, liberation, and joy as a revolutionary force reverberate in everything we do.  WHO IS THIS FOR? We aim to engage our communities. Around 20 campers will attend this summer’s program. Rock n Roll Retreat NYC! centers youth of color (especially black indigenous youth), trans youth, disabled youth, and low-income youth. WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO? We need all the help we can get. Our increasingly expensive city is becoming less and less hospitable for do-it-yourself community organizing, despite the fact that its residents need more support than ever. With your donations, we can rent a space suitable for our programming, afford supplies, and keep costs minimal for our campers and their families. If we go beyond our fundraising goal, that money will be used to fund another camp session for summer 2021.  Consider the value of a week of low-cost/free childcare, especially for NYC’s families who need it most.  WHY DOES IT MATTER? All of the founders of Rock n Roll Retreat NYC!, and many of the other people behind this project, are lucky enough to have had our lives transformed by programs part of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance as former campers and/or volunteers.
