This is the official fund raising page for the fire on July 18th at the 4600 block of Cheryl Dr that claimed the life of Peggy Alexander.
On July 7th, the week of Peggy's birthday, Peggy lost her father that she had moved to Corpus Christi from San Antonio two years prior to care for. On Sunday, July 12th, the morning of the rosary for her father, the family lost their beloved dog Freddy. Peggy buried her father on Monday July 13th. The following Saturday, July 18th, (which was also the birthday of Peggy's father) at around 11pm a fire broke out in the house where Peggy lived with her husband Buddy.
Buddy woke up in his bed to the smell of smoke and quickly woke up Peggy. Holding her hand, they both rushed to the door but along the way Peggy fell and the two were separated. Buddy, realizing that his loving wife was still inside, began to spray himself with water so he could rush back into the smoke and flames. If it hadn't been for the first police officer on scene holding Buddy back from reentering the house, he may have been lost as well.
After putting out the flames, firefighters rushed in and pulled Peggy out of the house. Her heart had stopped but paramedics were able to bring her back on the way to the hospital. She was then flown to San Antonio Military Medical Center where there is a specialized burn unit.
Peggy fought and held on as long as she could but succumbed to her injuries on the morning of July 21st. Exactly 2 weeks after her father had died.
Peggy is survived by her husband Buddy, her older siblings Shelia and Chuck, as well as her two children Buddy Ray, and Julie.
Unfortunately, Peggy and Buddy did not have health insurance or life insurance.
