A dear old friend; a woman I consider a second mother to me had her $20,000+ state of the art electric wheelchair stolen from outside an non accessible convenience store.
She lives downtown Toronto and this is her ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION!!!!!!!!
This was an experienced person in theft of these items we believe because they knew of all the secret buttons and safety locks. Not only did she lose this critical MANDATORY item but there were personal items in the bags on the chair.
This chair is NOT insured. Wheelchairs do not get insured like cars as they are not ridden on the roads and because of her fixed income she was forced to cancel her home insurance last year.
It's been reported to the police but even the police are not hopeful.
She is a very active and loved member of the St. Lawrence Market Community. She is quite old but never has let that or her disability hold her back. She has never had much in the way of worldly goods but always finds some way to give and give to anyone who needs it. She is a volunteer for community events, political groups in the past and her chosen profession before she retired many many years ago was a social worker so that should give you some ideas of the type of person she is.
Please run a story on the news about this as soon as possible so maybe just maybe we can locate this chair. This woman cannot survive being homebound and does not have the money at all to get a new one.
Please help Dorothy raise enough to purchase a new chair! After a life of giving and immense caring, she doesnt deserve to have something so important taken from her.
Thank you so much!
