Liam's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Liam Taylor, son of Laura and Everett, was a normal active 3 year old until 7/14/15 when he was admitted into a Children's Hospital with severe mental status changes.  His admission testing included many tests, but the most troublesome was his MRI results that showed subacute necrotizing encephalitis.  This means he had swelling on his brain that caused brain tissue to die and/or become damaged.  The doctors did not give him a good chance at survival, but he has beaten the odds thus far.

He was taken off the ventilator on 7/17/15, and he was released from ICU to the neurology floor on 7/19/15.   His brain swelling has caused permanent damage so Liam has a long road to recovery, and each day will hold its own milestones.  As of 7/21/15 he can not see as his brain can not process what is coming in, he has been able to verbalize and respond to commands minimally, he can move his arms and legs however his reflexes are abnormal, and he can not currently eat (ng tube feeds for now).

Liam is a fighter and each day he has surprised us.  The best was when his Mom held him for the first time after extubation and he touched her face and said Ma!  The family has been able to see glimpses of Liam, he is definitely still with us!  The unfortunate place we are in is that we know the what, but not the why.  There is no current diagnosis for why Liam has brain swelling, but the neurologists and geneticists believe it could be a rare genetic disease.  Genetic testing will take 12 months to come back with answers.  Until then we are praying for a continued recovery for little Liam, with the hope he continues to fight for his life.  Your funds will help with the financial burdens the family faces medically, and with the loss of income from missed work.  I am the sister of the mother, proud Auntie! Thank you for supporting this fund and God Bless all the sick children in the world.  I wish for miracles for them all!  Come back to us Liam!

Liam's Recovery Updates:

Liam is coming back one step at a time!  As of 8/1/15 he is in rehab doing grueling therapy 6 days a week.  So far Liam is eating, responding to questions, vision is there just not quite linking to brain at this point, he is sitting up and can kneel for short periods, and even stood for a few seconds this week!  He is a real fighter and working to get his strength back.  His future medical concerns are still a mystery and the family needs continued support and generosity to help with his care.  Thank you for your support! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

8/2/15 Liam "walked" with assistance/support belt led by his team of therapists. He did 1 assisted lap around his hospital unit!

The week ending 8/7/15:  Liam is moving all over the place!  He crawled through a tunnel, walked with the support of a rolling walker, and can stand when holding on to a support.  He is the most amazing little fighter!

The week ending 8/15/15: Liam has continued to improve in rehab and worked a lot on balance this week.  He can not walk unassisted and may be discharged home next week.  It will mean continued therapy out patient and a new way of life at home.  Please continue to keep Liam and his family in your prayers!

Liam continues in therapy and is such a joy in our lives.  He is forever changed, as are we.  Learning and living is a process and it must be one day at a time.  It has been an amazing year, full of amazing generosity and love.  We continue to wish Liam and his family the best.  Merry Christmas to all!
