Thanks for visiting the page!

Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR) is an incredible NGO that envisage to improve the lives of North Korean refugees by providing English language opportunities.

A bit about me:

There's not too much to know about me. I'm 24 and I come from a town just south of Manchester, UK. I moved to Korea about 2 months ago and I honestly couldn't be happier.

One thing that I felt strongly about before I came to Korea was that I wanted to invest my time wisely by improving the lives of others and when I saw the volunteer opportunity with TNKR, it was something I really wanted to get involved in. As a native English speaker, I feel that I can benefit the lives of others by simply delivering my language in a way that can be taught and understood by non-English speakers.

I have two students and plan to meet with them twice per month for 1.5 hours for intensive English language sessions.

What you can do to help:

TNKR is an entirely voluntary organisation, which means that teaching resources, travel etc are at the expense of the tutor. On top of this, TNKR desperately need your support to help with all kinds of work they're doing to help with the integration of North Korean refugees in South Korea and other relational issues.

The smallest contribution would be much appreciated by myself and the directors of TNKR, but I think most of all, by the refugees.

If you think you can help out in any other way such as hosting an event (for all you musicians out there) or have any ideas on how you could get involved then do let me know!

Here's TNKR's mission statement:

"Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR) is a non-political and non-religious humanitarian organization that focuses on assisting adults who have escaped North Korea in preparing for their future. The primary focus of TNKR has been to provide English learning opportunities to refugees and to provide them with more options for determining their places in society. All tutors involved in the project are volunteers, and there is no cost for the refugees." (source:  http://teachnorthkoreanrefugees.org/aboutheader/abouthome/

North Korea:

I won't go into detail about North Korea, but I know that we hear very little about it in the western world. Here's some infomation by the Human Rights Watch for those of you who would like to know a little more:
