Sarah D. says "Cancer Sucks"

I met Sarah Davis in the fall of 1989 my eighth grade year, and we have been like sisters ever since. So, the news of breast cancer just blew my mind. I asked myself how could it be? Sarah was not even 40! I've read about how one in eight women would be affected and that cancer doesn't discriminate against age. This is fact! When we received the confirmation of breast cancer and how far it had spread, I was terrified, but Sarah was so calm, despite this horrific news of ongoing chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries.

Sarah has remained SO positive and SO determined to beat this and not let cancer win! She said to me, "It’s not a death sentence and my treatment has had great success in patients. If I were to be mad and angry every day, that wouldn't help anyone or anything!”

She will win this fight!

Sarah Doebley was born in December 11, 1975 and grew up in Denver. Met and then married Corey Davis in the fall of September 2006. January 2008 they welcomed Chloe, their beautiful baby girl. Five years later “Mad” Max, Maxinator or Maxnado as he is affectionately called joined the family and thankfully this kid is so cute because he is a typically boy! Chloe is about to start the second grade and is beyond excited, and Max is just about to turn three! Before the awful "C" word the life was good!

Now the battle begins! Sarah’s cancer had not only affected her left breast, but spread to her lymph nodes in her left arm and traveled to the small spots on the hip and spin. Because of how far the cancer spread, she will need to be on "maintenance treatment" indefinitely.

Sarah underwent six rounds of “a humdinger” of a chemotherapy every three weeks. She suffered the loss of her hair, fatigue hit hard, she was achy all over, her finger nails "lifted", and not to mention everything tasted metallic!

Sarah has completed chemo and underwent a double Mastectomy at the end of June and is healing. (As with most short term disability programs, her pay during these few weeks off was at a reduced salary.)

Sarah will next undergo Radiation every day for six weeks before she will begin the reconstructive process. One of the side effects of radiation is again, fatigue. Sadly most of her vacation and sick time has been used up during the chemo phase, so she doesn’t have a lot of time left to use to make up lost hours she will have during radiation. While her employer has been completely supportive during this whole process, they don't have a program to donate sick time to others in need.

A few months after radiation she will have reconstruction surgery which is a much more extensive surgery and will require approximately six weeks of recovery away from work.
During all of this she will still be receiving her “maintenance treatments” every three weeks indefinitely. While the effects are not nearly as harsh as chemo it will still require some time away from work, deductibles, and co-pays. A long road ahead for certain!!

So they say "the hard part for her is over" because the side effects of chemo will dissipate and her body will then be able to start recovering. Thank goodness! But with all the "next treatments" ahead I question that statement, "The hard parts are over" As a working mother of two myself, I see the financial worry she has!
The medical bills are beginning to come and pile up and she needs your help! As I and her mother remind her, she didn’t ask for this mess and there is nothing wrong in asking for help! Of course we would like to raise as much money as we can, but it's always good to set a goal. If we can raise $15,000, that would help offset the financial burden that follows this ugly cancer!!
