The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics is an annual international competition for high school students. The participants to this prestigious competition are selected through rigorous processes by their national astronomical societies, and hence given a chance to represent their own country and compare their knowledge with that of their peers from around the world. The Olympiad also serves as a great place for networking among young scientists and building bridges among cultures from all over the globe.
This year the Olympiad is held in Central Java, Indonesia, from July 26 to August 4 and teams from more than 50 countries are expected to participate. Each team consists of up to five students and two leaders, which makes the Olympiad the largest event for young astronoms and astrophysicists. The Macedonian team is consisted of Dejan Maksimovski, Robert Jovanov, Andrej Simeski, Angela Mitrovska and Oliver Vasevski. The organizer of the competition covers all costs associated with the stay in the host country, and the participants need to cover only their travel and visa expenses.
However, this represents a major financial difficulty for the Macedonian Astronomical Society, which operates with a budget of less than $1000 annually. Moreover, the team selected to represent Macedonia couldn't find any other sponsors to support them get to Indonesia. You are our last chance! The parents of the students pledged to support them with the maximum amount they can get, but this is still not enough -- we need another $9500 for our team to get from Skopje to Semarang.
