Support for Steph & MacAdam Clan

Friends and family of Stephanie MacAdam.

It has been nearly 9 months since Stephanie and her daughter were involved in a serious car accident on July 11, 2015. We thank you for your prayers, thoughts, and generosity, and we are grateful for the impressive work done by surgeons at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, by the physical therapists at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, and by the doctors and therapists at the Curtis Hand Center.

Bailey has recovered well, though she continues physical therapy for her broken right wrist. She has a permanent loss of range of motion in her writes (and scars from 3 surgeries). These will be permanent reminders of the accident.

Stephanie has been diligent in her own therapy as well, making slow but steady progress. She had a couple additional hand and foot surgeries since she came home, which undid some of her progress until she could catch up again. Her hand specialist has declared the arm “paralytic.” While Stephanie will have some improved “functional” movement, she will never be able to use it fully and likely will not be able to use a keyboard, let alone a piano, which has been very difficult for her. Stephanie’s spirit remains, strong, however, and she continues to work hard every day.

In a turn of good luck, Stephanie was awarded Workers Compensation for the accident, and these payments began in January after her paid leave ran out. This benefit is wonderful, and will cover any healthcare needs relating to her injuries for the rest of her life. The payments, however, are less than Stephanie's take-home pay before the accident. Another aspect of Workers Compensation is that the system can demand repayment from insurance settlements. This means that they don't expect to keep any of the liability settlement from the other driver. Between the reduced income and the need to replace Stephanie’s car before her return to work in June, and Bailey’s medical expenses (not covered by Workers Compensation, nor fully covered by Jere’s health insurance), they are looking at tight finances through the winter and into spring.

Anything you can possibly do to help the MacAdam family would be greatly appreciated.  Stephanie and her family still have a long way to go, and they can use all the love, prayers, and support we have to give.

Thank you!
