James L. Haggard Funeral Expenses

Donation protected
I met James Haggard when he and my daughter Amber started dating over 10 years ago. He was a member of Van Buren's Finest, serving as one of their dispatchers for many years. When they married, his proposal was one of epic proportions. He hand lettered a huge banner and with the help of some of his fireman friends, posted it on the side of one of the city's firetrucks.  When Amber got off work at her job at Movie Gallery, James rode into the parking lot on the firetruck with lights and sirens blaring, and got off that truck, knelt down on one knee and asked her to say yes. (The sign on the banner said, "Amber, will you marry me?") This is only one example of how James went about life. He went all out in any endeavor, and his attention to detail was incredible.

They married on February 9, 2006. He was a good husband, and they had their son, DJ, on April 5, 2012.

Like many young married couples have their share of problems, James and Amber were no exception. Not long ago, they had a rift in their relationship, which was a catalyst to James realizing that he wanted something more for his family. He began counseling and rededicated his life to God during a very short separation. (From June 22nd to July 1st.) The picture on this post was taken the day they got back together, and you can see how happy they were. In fact, they renewed their wedding vows on the Sunday following their reconciliation. They had nine days of a renewed honeymoon together. Life was good for them again.

Until it wasn't. James began having shortness of breath a couple of days before he passed away, but he thought it was just his allergies flaring up, and tried to handle it with over the counter remedies. On Thursday July 9th, he lost his struggle for oxygen. We won't have the autopsy reults for several weeks, but one of the paramedics on the scene told us that it looked like he had suffered from a pulmonary embolism. He was only 36 when he died at home, and left his wife, Amber, and son, DJ, and many friends and family who will miss him terribly. I am one of them. My heart goes out to his mother and brother, but mostly it aches for his widow and son. They will have to deal with all the issues of a funeral, and the ensuing expenses that entails.

Amber works at a local WalMart, but without James' income, it will be impossible to pay for his funeral without going into bankruptcy.

I'm asking that instead of flowers; please make a donation in his honor, in order to help defray the costs of his funeral. All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.
