Diamonds are Forever

Please allow me to introduce you to Kimberly Servis. She is a native of Clifton Park, NY, a wife, a mother of two beautiful girls (Guin, 15 and Cassandra, 17) who attend Schenendehowa High School and a Server/Manager at Milano Restaurant in Latham, NY where she has been for the past 20+ years.  Seven years ago Kim had a Melanoma removed from her arm and was thought to be in the clear. A few years ago she started experiencing frequent seizures which led to countless tests and bloodwork with no clear answers.  She has been living with these symptoms and adjusting her and her family’s life to the changes. A resent visit to her Dr. would lead to a trip to the oncologist after a lump was discovered on her lung.  The visit to the oncologist in June 2015 would leave her and her family with devastating news. Our friend Kim has stage 4 cancer that has quickly spread too many areas of her body including her lungs, pancreas and brain.  After laying dormant for almost 7 years, cancer has come back, and this time it’s not going away.  In an attempt to slow this cancer down Kim has opted to go through harsh radiation and chemotherapy treatments.  The oncologist projects a 1 year life span.  Her other option would only leave her with 2 months to spend with her family.  Our Kim is going to hold on as long as she possibly can to be with her family and endure the traumatic and exhausting treatment that we all know about.  I’m sure cancer has touched someone in everyone’s life.  It’s devastating, its ugly and sometimes it plays for keeps. I’ve known Kim for over 10 years.  She’s a beautiful soul and a mother figure to me (we all have that one that we latch onto in our careers) As soon as I heard this news I knew I had to do something.  I’m hoping that this Go Fund Me Page can relieve some of the financial burden that this family is going to endure, and ultimately raise enough to send Kim’s daughters to college in hopes that they can lead a semi normal life. I know what it’s like living paycheck to paycheck, so whatever you can donate would be greatly appreciated.  Please, we can’t do this alone.  

 

Along with this Go Fund Me Page we are putting together a “prom” themed fundraiser in mid-August. No mother should have to miss their daughters going to the prom, and we’re going to make sure she doesn’t.
