Our Mom, Our life, Our hero ……  #yolandasfight

Yolanda Dyck's (Janicki)  Fight

It is our darkest hour as a battle for survival begins. Those of you that know our Mom will be shocked and saddened to learn  her battle against cancer has taken the ultimate turn for the worst. Her cancer has returned aggressively and is now spread throughout her brain. Her doctors are doing what they can but with the treatments currently available in Canada there is no hope! We need your help as we take extreme action to save our mom!

We are in shock and cannot believe this is happening!  Our family is in crisis.  This reality has broken all of us, we will never be the same. Our Mom is our life, our hero and without some kind of medical miracle she has been given less than six month to live. We cannot let this dreadful disease take her, she has too much to give and we need her. We need her to stay with us as long as possible.
Our mom is a fighter and she will continue to fight until the end. She is only in her early forties, too young to leave us. We need the help of others to extend her life so we may share good times together and build great memories.

She has begun radiation treatment, with the hope that is will stop the spread of cancer.  She must begin taking an approved drug called Olaparib, which will cost our family $10,000 a month.  We have also reached out to other medical facilities such as MD Anderson in Texas and European clinics to explore alternate treatments that offer even greater hope for remission. It will cost thousands of dollars just for the initial assessments and much more if they agree to treat our Mom. Your donation will give our Mom access to these costly treatments and hopefully extend her life.

We are fundraising to give Mom the opportunity to go to any of these medical facilities that can offer her treatment to help extend her life.  Help pay for the clinical drugs and any of the other medical expenses that come with this battle for survival!   Our Mom is a fighter, we love her and we need her here in our lives. Those that do not know our Mom you should know that she is the most incredible lady in our lives. You would love her as much as we do.

We Need Our Mom

The most beautiful Mom, inside and outside, selfless, powerful, super strong, courageous, brave, competitive, puts everyone first, loves seeing people happy, loves our Dad (Craig), loves her sister’s, does anything for friends, fueled by her passion for her family and her love of her work place, managing at The Printing House.

We could not function as a family if she was not here with us today. She is the foundation, the rock of the family and is the glue that holds us together! The one that remembers everyone’s birthdays, favourite foods all those little things that make a difference in someone's life.

Our Mom has always been determined to WIN THIS FIGHT and never wanted to burden others. However, she has no choice now and needs our help!

Please Meet Us

Yolanda Dyck’s children - Jacob (age 20) and McKayla (age 16).

Our Mom has been battling cancer for the last 3 years.  She has been going through chemo treatments, radiation, mastectomy, fatigue, nausea, seizures, multiple surgery’s and hair loss. We remember listening to her cry at the bathroom door as our Dad was buzzing her beautiful long blonde hair as chemo took large clumps out.  We sat at the door and cried as she wanted us to remember her in a certain way.  Mom, you rocked the short hair – your always will be the most beautiful Mom.

She  always remained so positive.  Mom got us up daily for school, went to work and was determined to fight this deadly disease. Our Mom is a fighter with nine lives. The bravest Mom / Woman / superhero we know. After her 3 year battle, her fierce fight, the cancer is starting to win and she has been given less than six months to live.

Yolanda Dyck’s (Janicki) journey - Our Mom

When you hear of Yolanda Dyck you immediately think determined, self-motivated, a leader, a role model, a businesswoman, and a  gym fanatic.   But, most of all she is the best mother, a loving wife, great daughter in law, caring sister, loving sister-in law, amazing aunt and a great BFF to have on your side. She will do anything to extend her life, not for herself but for her family to make more memories together. She must see me, her daughter McKayla graduate high school and to see her son, Jacob graduate university in two years and watch them both get married.

Mom has kept this battle very private and confidential, not wanting to be defined by the disease. She always planned to beat cancer and winning was the only option she had.

It all started back in August 2016 when Mom was diagnosed with stage 3-breast cancer.  She immediately started chemotherapy and for five months life was hell, vomiting, tiredness, and intense headaches. Within a few weeks, she lost her hair but not her spirit. For any women it is a horrifying experience, losing your hair, going bald and never looking the same again.

In January 2017, she underwent a mastectomy and 2 weeks later was told her pathology was clear. Everyone who loves Yolanda were ecstatic, especially us.  Throughout this journey our mom worked at her job and continually exercised at the gym 5 times a week.  She also supported both of us in school and went to watch me, Jacob play soccer at my university whenever possible.

Mom was trying to get her life back on track when in October 2017 she suffered a seizure that sent her to the hospital. After several tests, a brain tumor was discovered and what she thought was a fluke seizure, turned out to be stage four metastasized breast cancer that spread to her brain.  She had emergency brain surgery followed by rounds of radiation.  Radiation treatments required specifically fitted masks for her head.  After radiation the doctors told her they would need to monitor every 2 months to be sure no tumors returned. This was an intense time for the entire family, knowing that triple negative breast cancer had spread to Mom’s brain. We were told it could come back at any time and it will always be inside her.

She kept her spirts high and kept going to work and spending time with her family. In February 2018, another 2 tumors were found and again Mom had to receive targeted radiation.  In May 2018, another tumor was discovered and immediate radiation followed.  The radiation seemed to be doing the job and every time a tumour would appear the radiation would shrink it almost completely.

Earlier this July, Mom started feeling worse and was losing feeling at the side of her face and legs.  Her nerves were not working correctly. She called the doctor to explain the symptoms and was rushed to hospital emergency ward for a spine MRI, followed by a brain MRI. This time the worst news ever! The doctors discovered so many tumours that they couldn’t count, the horrendous part being, it is in her brain lining…..

These last 5 days our family has been shocked and horrified as we are fear for our Mom’s future.  The doctor told Mom to do anything on her bucket list as she only has less than a six month’s to live. This was a shock and it felt like we were stabbed in the heart, we need our Mom, she is our everything and we cannot lose her.

Our Dad, Craig has been there every step of the way, the good, the bad, the ugly.  Held her hand, watched her vomit, dressed her and slept in a chair beside her every night she spent in the hospital.  He has now taken over and is the glue holding this family together. For our Dad, this was the worst news that he could ever receive, his wife, his best friend, his lover is going to leave him and after 20 years... we are just not ready to accept that and say goodbye.
