Last year on May 27th, 2014 Christina Vitaliano, 33, from Nanuet, NY, was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer, which spread into her lymph nodes. She is also brca 1 positive. During this time, Christina underwent multiple rounds of the strongest chemotherapy as well as radiation, followed by surgery to remove both her breasts and add expanders. As a result, Christina was in full remission up until March of 2015.
On June 16, 2015, Christina started to feel very ill. Some of her symptoms included dizziness, difficulty moving and walking, as well as vomiting. That week, she went to Good Samaritan hospital and they diagnosed her with vertigo, prescribed her nausea and anti vertigo medication and sent her home.
On Father's Day 2015, Christina started throwing up again and her symptoms worsened. The following day, she went back to the hospital and called her doctors at Sloan Kettering, asking them for advice. The doctors told her to get a cat scan, which showed a light shadowing on her brain.
Following the results, the doctors at Good Sam called her doctors at Sloan and asked them to set up an appointment to do further testing.
Christina headed down to Sloan Kettering in NYC , where a team of neurologists was waiting for her to discuss next steps. Unfortunately Christina cannot get an MRI done due to the expanders that she has in her chest.
After further testing, we found out Christina has 5 brain tumors that metastasized from her breast cancer. The neurology team came up with a plan to start radiation right away for 2 weeks, possibly surgery or chemotherapy. We were also told the symptoms that Christina is having, lead them to believe that the cancer has spread to the spinal fluid. Doctors are unable to do a spinal tap to test this, due to the fact that she has too much pressure on her brain.
As of now due to all of this, they are preparing us for the worst. Currently, she is hospitalized at Sloan, fighting for her life. Any donations will help pay for her medical bills and for her beautiful and loving 6 year old Jojo's future.
Christina has her loving boyfriend, son, family and friends standing beside her praying for a miracle.
