My Sister, Rhyan has been working in Haiti since 2008 and in 2010, after the 7.0 earthquake that rocked the country, she started her own non-profit organization called Espwa Berlancia. (www.espwaberlancia.org) Espwa Berlancia works to help provide quality maternal and infant healthcare to the fragile women and babies of Haiti.
2 months ago Rhyan left the relative comfort of the outskirts of Port Au Prince to move with her two children to a tiny village called Belle Anse. Since moving Rhyan has experienced the struggles of adjusting to a new place only increased by the living conditions she has found herself in. No electricity, no running water or indoor bathroom. Rhyan was able to get her house fixed up a little bit but is still trying to get an indoor bathroom put in and a few more things done to make it more comfortable for her and her family. The adjustment has been rough and expensive.
To top it all off, this past week Rhyan’s laptop computer was stolen off of a public transportation van, taking with it every photo from the past 4 years and hours upon hours of work that she has poured into there organization and their new project in Belle Anse.
Rhyan desperately needs to replace this computer in order to continue doing her amazing work to help moms and new babies. Because all of her organization programs and partners use Mac she will need to get another Macbook and because of the lack of consistent electricity the Macbook air with 12 hour battery life is the best option for her.
I am hoping to help Rhyan by raising funds to buy her a new computer as well as help with the cost associated with getting her house fixed up and her family settled in their new home.
