Janice's Fighter Fund for Thailand

Donation protected

My name is Janice Lyn. I have been practicing the art of Muay Thai whole heartedly for 6 years with Krudar Muay Thai in Toronto, Canada.

To this date, my amateur record is: 17 wins-7 losses with 7 TKOs and my professional record is: 1 win - 0 Losses with 1 TKO.

I have achieved the following championships:

2012 TBA Featherweight Champion

2013 IKF World Classic Champion

2014 WKA North American Champion

2014 IFMA World Amateur Bronze Medalist

Just last November I won my first professional fight by TKO in Lockport, New York at Lace Up Promotion’s: Legends Rise.

I am very excited to begin this journey as a professional fighter. I foresee many difficult battles with many talented women, however, my existing battle unfortunately lies in finding fights in Canada and North America. Even with the rise of Muay Thai in Ontario, I am in a difficult spot since there have been many amateur cards but no professional cards.

Since opportunities have been limited here in North America, my Kru, Darwin Miranda, suggested that I go to Thailand to gain as much fight experience as possible. As of July 28th 2015, I am going to take a leap of faith in my passion for Muay Thai.

I am going to immerse myself in hours of hard work: hitting pads, grinding it out on the bag and learning from veterans of the sport.

Additionally, I will be fighting as much as possible within the 6 months I am in Thailand to gain experience in the ring and evolve to my full potential as a fighter.

Since I became more serious about the sport, one of my goals is to be the best female Muay Thai fighter in the world. It’s only a matter of time, but my heart and soul are set on doing it. This year has been hard juggling school, working and training but it is really funny how life manifests itself and how “what is meant to be, will be” if you want it bad enough.

This year I have been chosen to represent Canada at the IFMA World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. The IFMA World Championships is equivalent to the Olympics for Muay Thai. I am so thrilled to be a part of Team Canada again and excited to be representing Canada amongst the World. It is an honor to be a part of the great talent we have in Canada and I will train my very best for gold.

One of my other goals this year is to hopefully take part at the King’s Cup in Thailand this December. It has been one of my dreams to participate in this tournament and with enough perseverance and training, I hope the promoters will see something in me worthy of fighting at this very prestigious event. Wish me luck!

I am coming to you all through this Go-Fund-Me crowd funding site because I do need some financial help. It is common knowledge amongst the Muay Thai community that Muay Thai fighters are fighters because they love the sport and are not in it for financial reward.

Your kind donations will empower me to:

1) Prove to young female athletes that with the right determination and support, they can fight and change a male dominated sport.

Before my involvement in Muay Thai, being a female never really had much meaning to me. As I began winning fights I started noticing that there aren’t very many females fighters in the sport. Then I started noticing other females approaching me and mentioning things like, “You’re a strong female figure” and I started taking these words to heart.

Growing up, my parents instilled within me strong values and really made me believe that I could do anything I set my heart and mind on. I grew up like a tom boy because I hung out in my dad’s shadow helping him renovate apartments and helping him in the garden. I loved to get my hands dirty. As a child, in my mind there was no limitation as to what I could and couldn’t do physically just because I was a girl. I would just do it.

As I got older I had to understand that to some cultures, families and even individuals, there are varying opinions about the freedoms associated with gender. I think back to my experiences as a volunteer in other third world countries where females are bounded by male dominated opinions, standards and even rules about female sovereignty or lack thereof. I realize how much freedom, power and opportunity I have coming from a country where equality is more attainable . I want to use this power wisely for the females that can’t. I want to be a positive influence to females and to remind them that being female is beautiful and empowering.

2) Bring home a gold medal which will springboard other opportunities.

I am a baby in this pool of professional athletes. In order for me to approach the best female Muay Thai fighters I have to work hard to build my resume of credibility. This means winning more championships and taking part in major international tournaments and events such as IFMA and the King’s Cup. My goal is to make a name for myself internationally and to set a new standard for future athletes. To me, being an athlete holds a lot of meaning. It means being an expert in your chosen sport. It means being dedicated and passionate.

Being an athlete also means being responsible for the development of the sport and being committed to sharing your knowledge and expertise with others.

Juggling school, training and volunteering my time at the gym has made it a challenge to save money for this endeavor. I have outlined a list of forecasted tournament and travel expenses below. If there is anything you can spare towards helping me achieve my goals in Thailand and as a developing professional fighter I will be very grateful for your contribution.
