My Mission Year to Costa Rica

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

My name is David Robles and most of you may know me through school or soccer or mutual friends. I'm raising funds for a mission year that I will be doing in Costa Rica starting August 16. Last year before the start of my senior year of college, I was really scared and stressed out about what to do with my life. I know I was graduating soon but I didn't know what would happen after. I was praying to God that he may give guidance and help me to relax a little and figure what was my next step in life. And then a unique opportunity came up to go to Costa Rica, and at first I thought it was crazy. There was no way I was going to just leave my home and family and friends. But then I started to change my mind little by little.

I am part of a Christian community called The New Jersualem in Miami which is part of an ecumenical and international organization called The Sword of the Spirit. The word ecumenical means that this organization consists of all types of Christians including Catholics, Protestants, Lutherans, Non Denominational, and others. There are 74 different communities around the world in North, South, and Central America, Europe, and the South Pacific.

Before starting school last year, after praying a lot and talking to many people, I finally decided that I want to go on a mission to serve in the community in San Jose, Costa Rica for a year.  I will be serving mostly high school and university aged students. I will be helping in youth groups, college groups, retreats, camps and many other settings. I want to be kind of like a mentor for the men and women I'm going to be with. I'm going to be supporting them emotionally, spiritually, and in whatever way possible. My full time job will be to be someone that they can come to talk about anything. I hope to help them become the men and women that God meant for them to be. I will also be going on a mission trip in February to Honduras which will be a month and a half long to serve the poor. This includes building houses, visiting orphanages, and just being a friend to the people there.

I am putting my life on hold to serve Jesus and His people: any future job or opportunity and my relationships with my family, friends, and girlfriend. It is one of the hardest choices I've had to make, but I know
God has a great year in store for me. However, I am volunteering. I'm not being paid to do this. In fact I have to pay all my living expenses for a year in order serve there. Before my senior year of college, I was planning on graduating in the spring of 2015. However, I decided to drop a minor in order to graduate in the fall of 2014 so that I can work and save up for my mission year. But I still need a little help. I ask that you not only donate what you can, but also to keep me in your thoughts and prayers, and you will be in mine. Thank you so much and I pray that God continues to bless you and your families and friends.

Thank you,

David
