Promotional Tour of I Am Garvey

Hello, My name is Ty Simmons. I grew up in a single parent family from a large Indiana city named Fort Wayne.  I graduated from San Francisco State University with a Double Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Sociology with Associates in Education, Environmental Science, and Paralegal Studies with a minor in Black History.

I was raised by my mother whom I love dearly, but growing up I was looking for a Black male role model.  My uncle Ken, Pastors, Booker T Washington, Malcolm X, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Huey Newton were all great men in their own right, but they weren't enough for me.

I was looking for someone that was proud to be a Black man but not a racist, a historian, intelligent, fierce but nonviolent, spiritual but not to religious, a visionary for his people around the world not just local, and after years of education I found him.  Do not get me wrong every human has faults, but Marcus Garvey is that role model. I AM GARVEY!

The purpose of I AM GARVEY is to enlighten the Black Nation and the rest of humanity on Marcus Garvey's legacy, how Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association helped many Black people from around the world to open their minds to believe in something bigger than themselves: the Black Nation! I want every Black child to know, "You are as good as anybody, and there is nobody any better than you!" (Ms. Evelyn 2013)

"You must help your own and know yourself, before you can help and know others"  Marcus Garvey.

I AM GARVEY!

As of today, there have only been a few documentaries, and many books, and journals written about Mr. Garvey, but no one has completed a film ready or the "big screen"!

I AM GARVEY is a historical social drama that needs to be completed.

Marcus Mosiah Garvey' J jr.

When Marcus Garvey arrived in America in 1916 it was a blessing for every Black person in the world. He was there to lead his people Back Home. As Leonard Garvey stated, "The words and knowledge Garvey possessed was divine. The power of Garvey's word is legendary throughout the Black Diaspora".

Many people know Marcus Garvey for the Back to Africa Movement but he was much more.  He was a father, husband, devoted Christian, powerful speaker, leader, and a good businessman.

Mr. Garvey was the first Black man in America to head a corporation that owned passenger ships, black owned factories, banking system, and one of the firsts to address the United Nations on the Black Nation's issues throughout the world. Mr. Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association established many programs to employ, educate, feed, house, and cloth many Black Americans. Their .motto "One God One Aim One Destiny" has inspired me for years. Encouraging the Black nation to unite and stand proud together in a world that enslaved them physically, and mentally for almost 500 years throughout the world. Black Pride Black Power Black Nationalism however you put it, "its Pride in your race!"

Marcus Garvey said, "A people without the knowledge of their past, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots."

Many of the Black nation roots in the world, especially in America, have been destroyed, stolen, burned, or hidden from our youth. This knowledge is not taught in many elementary or high school history classes, even today!

The closest organization the Black nation in America has to Marcus Garvey's vision of Black Nationalism, besides Religion and "hate" rhetoric or as Malcolm X said, "Love" rhetoric, which are huge differences, is the Nation of Islam. One God! One Aim! One Destiny!

We wish the Nation of Islam would open up more to the non-Muslim Black nation, and focus on Black America - no matter religion. Lets open up more dialogue among all Black people of the Black nation. No matter what religion, organization, or secret societies regarding the state of the Black Nation in America. Not just the Black people that believe what you believe, educated or non-educated, rich or poor, man or woman, no matter where you live: "First the Black race must know themselves, in order to know where we need to go." Leonard Garvey

It has been a great struggle for the Black Nation in America with the help of a lot of people from all ethnicities and countries. Today, the Black Nation has come a long way, but there is more to do. We must continue the fight for "True Equality" in America, and in the world. I AM GARVEY is another stepping stone to what we need and want.

What will you do to help the Black Nation become truly Equals in America?

I Am Garvey Inc. was established as a Cultural and Education corporation to develop an economic development program to produce the film titled I Am Garvey, to begin an agricultural co-operative, and educate individuals on the life and legacy of the Honorable Marcus Garvey.
