Noah Domikis Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
Hello my Name is Noah Domikis and I am a member of Troop 835 in Fredericksburg Virginia. I’m close to earning my Eagle Rank and need your help to raise the funds and donations necessary to complete this project.
Each year Troop 835 is asked to assist in the Flag retirement ceremonies in our area. This requires the proper cutting, respectful burning and retirement of old and worn flags. The Izaak Walton chapter in Fredericksburg is often the sponsor of these events and treats the entire activity with great respect. We are very lucky to have their support! We often have special honored guests from the military
Each year Troop 835 tries to improve this event and so I decided that for my Eagle Scout project I would do a number of things to help improve the U.S. flag retirement ceremony. Izaak Walton has even designated an area to bury the Flag’s ashes. Even these ashes and grommets are treated with the respect they deserve.
The event includes the entire family and everyone including our local Girl Scouts helps with the flag retirement
For my project:
1. We plan to bury a concrete pipe on end with a lid to act as tomb in the center of the area. This will require buying the concrete pipe and cap as well as a great deal of work to dig and set it in place.
2. We are also planning on making 2 or 3 new flag retirement stations, as our current ones are old and rusty from their frequent use.
3. Finally I have created some words about these flag retirements and hope to have a brass plaque machined that can be mounted to the tomb.
I am still working on the exact words for the plaque but I thought I’d share what I have written so far, I’m sure it will change but really want it to be special and capture the spirit of these events.

Buried here are not simply the ashes of cloth and threads
These are the ashes of honored and retired flags of the United States of America
Each has served our nation and our people as a symbol of freedom and community
Some have flown over government buildings
Some have flown on a porch of a home in your neighborhood
Some have flown over schools
Some may have been draped over a casket
These flags have each served honorably as a symbol of our nation now old and ready to retire
We have carefully burned these flags with honor and respect
Even their ashes have power
How many eyes have looked at these flags and Pledged Allegiance?
They are not cloth and thread these flags are symbols
for the vision of our founding fathers
for the men and women that keep a nation rooted in rights and freedoms
for the love and commitment of every citizen
for the sacrifice of the men and women who have fought and died for our country
As you stand here before this tomb
Consider a world and life without this nation
Look down at the ground under your feet & know you stand in the Land of the Free
Take a moment to thank the individuals and lives that have been sacrificed for you
We are truly fortunate to live in the United States of America

We will need to raise the funds to buy the materials, machine the plaque and maybe even to rent equipment to set the concrete in place. My hope is to raise enough donations to get all of this work completed. If we receive more donations than required it will be donated to support future projects.
I want to thank everyone in advance for your support
Sincerely, Noah Domikis
