As many of you know, Marina was on a once in a lifetime journey in Peru this past April. She hiked what she thought would be the longest and greatest hike of her life. When she returned home, she soon realized a four day hike of Machu Picchu was nothing compared to the journey she was about to embark on.
In late April, Marina was diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine cancer of the cervix. This is a very aggressive, rapid moving cancer that left Marina with little time to even process, let alone prepare for what was happening. Just days after her diagnosis, Marina underwent a radical hysterectomy where they also removed as many lymph nodes as possible to keep the cancer from spreading. As time was not on her side, Marina was unable to preserve her eggs. Along with the burden of cancer, Marina now had to also come to terms with losing her ability to carry and give birth to her own children one day, a lifelong dream of hers. With such news, you would expect anyone to fall, lose their spirit, even just for a moment. But Marina did not. She stood tall, determined not to lose the positive energy that she brings to all of our lives on a daily basis. Marina has always been the energy we wish we had, the optimism we just can’t find and the free spirit we are too afraid to be. She brings so much joy, love and laughter into all of our lives. Marina is a role model to all of us, showing us how to live life to the fullest and encouraging us to make the best of each day. Marina Bekker is truly ONE OF A KIND!!
Her strength and courage over the last few months has empowered us all. She is currently in the process of chemotherapy and radiation that will continue over the next few months. As Marina has given so much to all of us, we humbly ask for any kind donation to ease the burden of her mounting medical bills. Just as important, please keep Marina and her beautiful spirit in your prayers.
