I've lived with Sickle Cell Anemia for 25 years now, ever since my 20th birthday my illness has taken a drastic turn, I've been hospitalized at least once every year since 2009. My stays at the hospital sometimes lasted more than a month, because of this I've had to drop out of school twice. In 2013 my doctor had me try a new drug by the name of Hydroxyurea, ever since that day in January of 2013 I have been out of the hospital and living a close to 'normal' life.
I had to stop working in March 2014 because I was suffering with something called Avascular Necrosis in my right hip due to my Sickle Cell Anemia, I had to quit my job because it was too painful to stand or walk. I had a total hip joint replacement in August of 2014, finding a job that can accommodate to my limits of standing and walking has been a struggle. I am now unable to buy my medication every month and with finally going back to school this September I fear not having my medication that has been my life saver will take me back to the years where I was hospitalized on and off. I want to be at my best health to go back to school. Anything would help, I appreciate every single person who can support my cause.
