Emergency Surgery for Viktor

Dear Cat lovers and Friends of the Internet,

I'm writing today to tell you about my best friend, Viktor Crumbles, and his unfortunate situation. Our loving, adorable kitty has severly broken his arm and requires some serious medical attention. The surgery to fix his arm will cost thousands of dollars, and will include putting a metal plate in his tiny arm. Our other option is to amputate the arm before it becomes infected. This is a desperate plea for help, and a story of our love for our feline companion. Before I get too far into the tradgedy that has befallen us, let me first tell you how we met him.

Last christmas, after all the presents had been opened and brunch had been eaten, I was sitting outside on the porch at my grandfathers farm. There have always been lots of wild farm cats at his house, they like to live under the house in a feral cat colony, but no cat had ever let me get close enough to pet them. So imagine my surprise when this beautiful little guy wandered by, slightly skittish at first, and came right to me when I called! He didnt play hard to get, he came right over and gave me the loudest purr I've ever heard, and cudddled right up on my lap.

He was colored like a siamese, but the build of a typical american cat. Research later determined that he is a Snowshoe, a breed of siamese and american short hair. He was bone thin, covered in fleas, his eyes were goopy and he kept sneezing. He ravenously ate everything we put in front of him and cuddled us with the greatest appreciation. Needless to say, we were in love. We made sure no one in the area was missing a cat, or that he had a chip, and we took him home with us, to nurse him back to health.

Once we got home, we started his rehabilitation. We got him nuetered, got him antibiotics and flea medication, but could not afford all of the tests and shots right away. We decided to name him Viktor Crumbles, after a beloved Harry Potter character with a similarly grumpy face, but loving heart.
It seemed that he was on the path to recovery.

He cuddled us day and night, followed us around the house and yard, just wanting to spend all the time in the world with us. He always seemed to find the cutest places to nap, and even made friends with our roommates pitbull!

He has a large vocabulary of meows and always knows how to tell us what he needs. He makes friends with every person he meets, and has never clawed or hissed at a human. He does front sommersalts, plays fetch and even jumps through hoops! Sometimes I think that he is an alien, or a dog in disguise.

So everything was fine, viktor was on the mend, and we thought we were in the clear. We had to leave town for a few days and left him with a friend. When we got him back, he was sick beyond belief. A 104 degree fever, two ear infections, eye infections, tapeworms and fleas. We were shocked and immediately got him the medication that we could afford. We ran our first campaign and were able to raise just enough to get him the rest of the meds. We thought everything would be ok, and two weeks later, we had to go on our second trip.

That was last weekend. When we returned on monday, we found him on our front porch, limping towards us, crying out. Our roommate told us what had happened, he had tried to get outside through a windown that had been propped open. Viktor accidentally pushed the jar that was holding the window open, and the heavy old window fell and crushed his arm very badly. The x rays showed a compound fracture in his Radius and Ulna. The vet told us our options; Surgery, Amputation, or Euthanization.

The devestation, tears and regret poured over us, cripling us with emotional distress. We called countless vets and animal hospitals and no one would give us any quote, estimate or information on how much these procedures might cost. The only way to get any information is to pay for an exam first. This leaves us with no real way to “shop around” or compare prices. Now we are searching for solutions, applying for lines of credit, and turning to our friends and family for guidance and help. We will go to any length to save Viktor, putting him down is just not an option our hearts can take. We have done so much to save him these last 6 months and there is no way we can give him up.

The surgery to fix his arm, by inserting a metal plate and wrapping with a cast, will cost thousands. We wish we had a real estimate, but we can only guess as to the final cost. The amputation option will be at least a grand after its all said and done, and that is an option that we will gladly take if we cant raise the money for the surgery.

Viktor is being such a good boy, ever loving and relaxed, still showing his appreciation for the pets with a purr that sounds like a deisel motor. Other than the fact that he puts no weight on his front leg, his mood seems normal, he is eating and drinking water and being a normal kitty. He occasionaly shows that he is in pain, and we are keeping him on pain medication and antibiotics. We have just a few days to make a decision and get him the help he needs.

Viktor Crumbles is the best cat we have every known. We love him more than anything and are asking for any help or support that may come. If our story has touched you, and you can find it in your heart to help, please share this post within your circle. If your budget allows, please help Viktor by donating.

I apprecaiate you taking the time to read this far and hope that the power of the interente will come through for us. God bless. =^-^=
