Be a part of a growing and exciting sport in the United States – SUMO!

Professional sumo is only found in Japan but amateur sumo is growing around the world.  There are over 85 countries that have taken up the sport and compete in many international events such as the World Sumo Championships, the World Games, and the World Combat Games.  Sumo has really taken off in Europe and in the Eastern Bloc countries where many athletes are sponsored by the State.  Here in the United States, athletes are left to fund their training, travel, and other expenses on their own.

The United States Sumo Federation (USSF) (http://www.americansumo.org/), and the (Texas) Lone Star Sumo Association, in addition to other USSF clubs around the country, are dedicated to bringing new athletes and supporters to the sport of sumo in the U.S.

Jasmin Jones has been competing in sumo for about 1.5 years.  She has competed in several local and state tournaments and wrestled at the 2015 U.S. National Sumo Championships for the first time on June 13th and came home with the Gold in both the Women’s Senior Heavy- and Open-weight divisions which qualifies her to be on TEAM USA at the World Sumo Championships.
Jessica Brower has been the Texas State Sumo Champion in 2013 and 2014.  She is a three time medalist at the U.S. National Sumo Championships winning the Silver in light- and Bronze in the open-weight divisions in 2013 and received the Silver in light- and took fourth in the open-weight division at this years’ National.  She is also a qualifier for the U.S. National Team at the World Sumo Championships.

Kassandra Ayers is representing the junior division (under 18) and is also a two time medalist at the U.S. National Sumo Championships with a Silver in the Female Junior Division in 2013 and the Gold in this years’ 2015 US National Sumo Championships.  She also has competed in local and state competitions.

Donations are tax-deductible through the USSF.  Their Federal ID number is 22-3728860.
