My name is Rian and I am a student gettin ready to go into my third year of college. I try my hardest to support myself and apply for as many scholarships as possible so that such a financial burden not put on my mother, who already struggles enough as is.
As a single mother of 4 she tries her best to keep the lights on and feed us. Being the oldest child I help her at home when I can and take care of the youngest two, Alex (8) and Nadia (5), while she goes to school and works during most of the day and night. Shortly after Nadia was born my mother lost her job and we have been kind of floating by ever since. She's been putting herself through school so that she can find better work but financially it's only been getting harder on all of us. She has no one but my self and my sick grandmother to depend on for child care while she goes to school and my grandmother is struggling feed herself as is.
I am only limited help, not just because I am in school but because my school is far from home so I can only help when I visit during the summer and holidays.
My mother has recently been hired for work but the pay is very low and we are not even scraping by. When I came home for the summer I came home to something that had been for so long crumbling now finally falling apart. The burden of having no financial support has caught up and we are a sinking ship. Our home, a home my grandmother, mother and her children had grow up in is being foreclosed on this summer.
The stress of it all has made my mother sick, and she has developed large and painful cysts in her breast. She wants to go to the hospital but if she does that, the doctor wants to keep her there for some time and if she doesn't work my siblings will have nothing to eat. I'd work myself if I didn't have to stay and take care of the children but even with us both working soon we will have no where to live. If we can manage to buy our home the taxes on it would be manageable and we could slowly but surely get back on our feet. But if we can't, then we have no where're go. I can go back to school at the end of the summer and have a bed and a roof over my head and food to eat but my siblings and my mother will have nothing. How can I go back to school with this burden on my family. I want to go back knowing that my family will be alright and that I have a home to come back to. Please support us and help my family save their home.
