Xetze New School Fund

Hello, friends!
For those who know me, you know education is very close to my heart. I view learning as the doorway to realize a life filled with opportunities and choices.
When Ellen Finn of Buenos Vecinos 'Good Neighbors’ (www.buenosvecinos.org ) reached out about a rural village in Guatemala needing a school for 100 local children, I jumped at the opportunity to help!
The goal of the Xetze School Project (a Buenos Vecinos Health & Education Initiative):
We need to raise $4,500 to build a school!
The villagers just cleared the land and started the building process! Here's where your investment will go.
$4,500 buys:
*building materials
*furniture
*transport
*teaching materials
*milk for the nutrition program
What will be volunteered is:
*land for the building
*labor by the villagers
*some building materials donated by the municipality
*coordination of the teachers
Xetze (pronounced shet-say) is a very poor, war-torn village outside of Chajul, Guatemala. Folks are mostly subsistence farmers (live off what they grow) and have very little, if any, resources.
Many of the kids are barefoot and don't go to school because their parents can't afford the $0.60 to buy their children a notebook and pencil.
So far, Ellen and Buenos Vecinos have increased attendance and brought in new kids by offering a nutritional milk program and school supplies. With the kids now healthy and nourished, they are ready to begin their studies!!
Ellen with local school teachers
Note from Ellen:
On behalf of the entire village of Xetze, we are grateful for your help and support of the children and teachers of this village!!
You may not see the difference these contributions make but I witness it everyday and it’s nothing short of life changing.
Many heartfelt thanks,
Ellen
