We are a non-profit delinquency prevention program based in Somerset County, NJ. Middle Earth has served Somerset County youth, 8-24 years old, for over 40 years by offering a wide range of programs from after school enrichment to employment readiness. Middle Earth's goal is to provide mentorship, guidance, and positive alternatives to delinquent behavior to help youth become responsible and productive members of the community.
We want YOU to help us in our mission by funding THE ART HOUSE FILM PROGRAM for its SECOND year!
Our first year was a great success! You can see the finished results of our youth’s first film by viewing their reproduction of Star Wars Episode IV: Cantina Scene . In addition, you can also read the Courier News article about our first production.
WHY?
The Art House is an after-school Middle Earth program which focuses on decreasing the risk of delinquency by increasing exposure to the arts. Research has shown that students involved with sustained, quality arts programming (printmaking, screen writing, film production) show progress with reading proficiency, self-control, motivation, and empathy and tolerance for others. The Art House's goal is to strengthen these characteristics within our youth and provide consistent, high quality positive alternatives to delinquent behavior.
HOW ARE THE FUNDS USED?
When we reach our goal of $10,000 we will be able to run The Art House Film Program for its second year. The funds will go towards providing apprenticeship workshops and supplies needed for: screen writing, acting, movie make-up, producing, directing, cinematography equipment, and editing software of an original short film, which students will write and produce themselves. In addition to this, the funds will go towards fees for submitting the original short film to student film festivals.
WHEN?
We hope to begin the program September 2015 and complete an original short film by June 2015.
