Our Story

It all started with a 1957 Shasta travel trailer

Moldy, full of wasps, and held together with duct tape in a few places, she wasn't much to look at.  But I had a vision.

Fast forward, five years later
This is Trixie.  She's an old gal, ten years older than me, and she has lots of little dents and dings.  But we are kindred spirits, Trixie and I.  We've both seen some adventure in our day, and we want more.  I spent five years restoring her to her original glory.
My name is Stacy Wright.  This is me, working on Trixie.  This is the day I got POR-15 in my hair, and later had to cut it off. If you don't know what POR-15 is, all you need to know is that it will never, ever come out of your hair. So just, don't.
This is Rufus enjoying the seats I made for Trixie.  I had never sewn vinyl, but once I finished these seats, I was obsessed!

I got some sparkly car upholstery vinyl and made a few little wallets.   I taught myself how to sew with vinyl, learned some tricks, and made a lot of mistakes.
This is what trial and error looks like.  We call this "the bucket of shame".  It's where mistakes and bad designs go to die.

But I digress.  Back to Trixie the trailer.
One day, while attempting to attach some stainless steel panels to Trixie, an unfortunate thing happened.Gory, I know.  Sorry about that.  This pic was a few weeks after surgery to put my lower leg back together and reattach the five tendons I severed with that stainless steel.  Turns out, stainless steel is rather sharp.

Why ?  What does this have to do with anything?
Why am I making you look at this ugly picture?

I'll tell you why.  Roller Derby!
Betcha didn't see that coming.

Since I couldn't walk for several months, I needed physical therapy to strengthen my leg.
I grew up roller skating at the "Dinky Rink" back in the days of Donna Summer/roller disco/pom-poms on your skates/strawberry lip gloss/feathered hair/kissing boys behind the pinball machines.  I decided roller skating was something I always enjoyed, and it would be perfect for my rehabilitation.

I always thought roller derby looked fun, but never had the balls to try it.  I was 45 years old.  It was now or never.

I fell in love with roller derby.  I was in love with the freedom of skating and learning new skills.  I was in love with the game, and the people, and the culture of roller derby.  Those skaters who I was so intimidated by at first, turned out to be the most supportive, crazy, tough, unique, and inspiring GIRL GANG ever!  Thank you Resurrection Rollergirls !
I passed my tryouts on the third try, and I became Trayla.  Trayla Parx.

I soon discovered that my designs were more and more inspired by my new love of roller derby.  Soon I was getting custom orders from my teammates, friends, and friends of friends.  It started to snowball.  I needed an accomplice.

Enter Michelle Check, aka Atomic BombChelle.  Atomic came to my house one day in early 2014 to help me organize my craft/sewing room.  I knew that she was a smart cookie, creative and organized.  By virtue of the fact that she didn't run far away when she saw my disastrous mess,  she was hired.   She patiently talked me through all my self-doubt and manic ruminations. She came over on days when I was too depressed to leave the house, and made popcorn.   She believed in my dream, and it became our dream.

Here's my little Tommy.  My partner in crime.

Together we are Trixie B. True.  Named for the trailer that started it all, and the doctrine to "be true to yourself, and you will never fail"  ~Beastie Boys ;)

In one short year we have established our brand in the roller derby community and beyond.  We are now ramping up our production for wholesale accounts, including a well known athletic wear company, with an international customer base.

We have grown fast, and we need new equipment and supplies to meet our production demands as we move into wholesale accounts.  We have been approached by many skate shops across the country, and they are waiting for our products.

We are seeking $2,500 for raw materials and equipment, including a new industrial Juki sewing machine to help us produce our bags faster and easier.

Will you please help with ANY AMOUNT to help us take this to the next level? We are so close, and we're working so hard!

Ok, we're not working hard in this picture, but it was our derby "wedding" night at Rollercon 2014.   Good times.

Derby Love,
Trayla and Atomic/ Stacy and Michelle
xoxo
