Project Childhood Memories 2012
Welcome!
I am a photographer from Germany. I am raising money for my project ''Childhood Memories 2012''.
The situation
In Southeast Asia there are still millions of people who do not own one single picture of their childhood.
I am going to change that! A little bit ;)
The solution
The concept of my project is simple and straightforward.
I fly to Myanmar (Burma) and travel the country for 1 month (November 2012) from south to north.
During my voyage I will take 1000 (or more) portrait pictures of young people in Myanmar. I will give them the taken picture (postcard size) as a gift right on the spot. The portrait will be printed on a high quality durable photo paper and will stay with the peson for a lifetime and beyond. To do that I will carry a lightweight camera system and a portable travel photo printer all the time with me.
Where the money goes
First of all:
In 2011 I did my pilot project "Childhood Memories" in Myanmar.
The project was a great success in Myanmar. I made more than 1000 portraits of children, young adults and mothers or fathers with their children. Financially the project was kind of a failure due to logistical problems on my side. I was unable to organize the support for the project at that time, because I was based in Vietnam and many of the internet social network sides were blocked by the Vietnamese government (the Arabic spring made countries like Vietnam very nervous).
This time I organize the project from Germany and I hope for a better response than in 2011. I want to continue the Childhood Memories Project because the children in Myanmar loved the project so much and it was so much fun to actually do it. I can not afford to pay for the "Project Childhood Memories 2012" completely by myself.
The money collected I will use as follows:
- I will have to pay for the flights to and within Myanmar.
But most of the time I will use the trains in the country.
- I will hire a student in Myanmar who should act as a translator, guide, second camera man and motorbike driver in one person (good luck with that).
- I try to stay in small guest houses or even with the farmers to keep the expenses for hotels as small as possible.
- I will use this time printer paper for at least 1000 USD, with a second person at my side I will be able to take more pictures as last time ( I can shoot and he can print out the portraits at the same time or he can even shoot video footage).
Important notice:
The names and personal data of the people I take portraits of will under no circumstances be revealed.
I will only mark the pictures with the first name and the region where I took the portait,
example: Sai, from Mandalay
