Rebuilding School Damaged in Nepal!

Donation protected
This grim looking little boy is one of those 1.7 million children affected by the disastrous earthquake which rocked the country of Nepal on April 25th and massive aftershock on May 12th with a magnitude of 7.8 Richter scale and 7.3 Richter scale respectively. More than 8,800 people lost their lives, and over 23,000 people were injured. In total, 8 million people were directly affected by the earthquake and more than 8,000 schools are damaged.

Now, like this little boy, more than 530 students are studying under temporary huts in his school. The roof is covered by plastic sheets and floor is unpaved. Their school is completely damaged by the earthquake. This little boy studies at the Mahendra Lila Higher Secondary School in Gorkha, Nepal which is more than 5.5 hours drive from the capital city, Kathmandu. Since this is the only school in the area, children walk as far as 2.5 hours to attend classes.

My name is Jyoti Vaidya and I am a life member of  the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRN-Canada). On May 12th, I went to Nepal along with my wife, Sangeeta Dhaubhadel and son, Ayush Vaidya. Before the earthquake, our trip was meant for vacation, but after this disastrous earthquake, our mission was changed to actively participating in relief work and providing support to affected people. While in Nepal, we visited many cities and villages.

·         In Bhaktapur and Makawanpur, we distributed relief goods.

·         In Lubhoo, we were told by the people that they found earthworms and leeches in water. Therefore, we used the funds raised from Agriculture Canada London and Biology department, Western University (Canada) to install a water filtration system in a community health center. The unit will provide clean filtered water at the capacity of 500 litres per hour to the community members.

·         We also visited several damaged school buildings in Gorkha, Kathmandu Valley and other districts.

London Cross Cultural Learner Centre and NRN-Canada) are actively involved in fund rasing to rebuild Mahendra Lila Higher Secondary School. The projected cost to build the school is $58,000. PLEASE HELP achieve this mission. All donated money will be transferred to the CCLC's Nepal Earthquake Benefit. Your help will bring a SMILE to all the children attending the school.
