Photography In Haiti

Hello Everyone!
Thanks for reading more about this great opportunity we (Randy and I) have to serve Haiti.

Context:
As a country Haiti has gone through a lot to rebuild since the 2010 earthquake. There were close to 300,000 people killed and some million people who were displaced from their homes in the quake and as a result people from all around the world gave generously to many Disaster Relief Funds. These funds were and still are being used to provide the following:
-Post-traumatic counsesling for families enrolled in non-profit out reach programs.
-New Construction and School buildings.
-Entrepreneurial training and microfinance loans so that parents could provide for their families and pour back into the community.

Hundreds of small business have opened all around Haiti and there have been many jobs created from the generous donations. Haiti is being rebuilt with the helping hands of it's own people. This excites my heart! It's like the anthem of the people of Haiti rings out strongly asserting "We won't give up."

These beautiful families are fighting to keep their families together in ways that give back to others.
That's where myself, the ApparentProject and their partnership with Papillon Enterprise comes in.
ApparentProject is a non-profit organization in Haiti and it is essentially an artisan guild. Their primary focus is to unite and reconcile families to each other preventing "orphanism". In Haiti, the vast majority of the orphans have not been orphaned due to the devestating natural disasters or deaths of family members, but by parents who lovingly leave their children at a place where they will be able to eat. The ApparentProject has opened the door for families to create beautiful things out of mess and chaos with their partner Papillon Enterprise.

Papillon (),  is a store front based in the largest city in Haiti, Port-au-Prince. There are 1,234,742 people living in this city. Papillon is able to employ 300 Haitian artisans who receive three times the minimum wage, medical benefits, language and literacy development, computer and software training and an onsite daycare.

The Why in why I'm going to Haiti:
I have dear friend who is an artist herself that moved to Haiti in 2011. Around 6 months ago, randomly I decided to reach out to her and felt really nudged to offer photography to her. She responded and here we are. I of course didn't realize how amazing and big this opportunity is until I did my research on what Papillon Enterprise and ApparentProject are doing. I want everyone I know to know about this because it's amazing and I tell stories best through Photography.

My heart is moved by what the Haitian Artisans at Papillon are doing because I see such a vivid example of what Jesus has done in my life through their creating beautiful things out of something not so beautiful.
So. I decided to go.

What will I be doing?:
I will be going to Haiti solo & my loving husband is going to man the fort back here in San Diego.
My trip will be from October 12th- October 21st.
I will have roughly 7 days on the ground in Haiti.

When I arrive in Haiti, I will be documenting the work that ApparentProject and Papillon Enterprise is doing by photographing the Artisans behind all of the beauty. So that's like 300 people for portraits ya'll! ;)

I will also be telling the story of Papillon Enterprise by photographing daily life at Papillon. Mostly, I have a very fluid and flexible plan because that's just what you have to do when you travel to another country.

Where YOU come in:
Because Haiti is in the Caribbean everything is imported meaning it is more expensive than most countries.
Here's the break down of my costs.
-$15 a day will cover my stay at my friends residence. ($105)
-$180 a day will cover the cost of my rental car & translator. ($1260)
-Around $50 a day will cover my food expenses. ($350)
-$750 for my plane ticket
-$80 for my gear to travel with me.
-$150 in emergency savings.

My trip in total will cost me $2750.00 for everything.
So that's like.....
550 people donating $5.
275 people donating $10.
184 people donating $15.
138 people donating $20.
110 people donating $25.
92 people donating $30.
69 people donating $40.
55 people donating $50.
or
28 people donating $100......

Every donation is appreciated and will help to make this trip a reality. As you can see about every amount does something whether big or small. And because I'm all about giving back to those who give, I have a couple more creative options of giving.
