Flying Dream Career

Donation protected

***Please read all the way through. Any donations will help. I am planning on other fundraising efforts. This money will be used solely for tuition in persuing my career as a pilot. Any dollar amount over will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.***

My name is Matthew Paul Gabriel McFadden, I am an aspiring pilot and want to begin my career in aviation as a commercial pilot. At 29 years of age I finished an 8 year contract with the U.S. Army in 2011, and currently employed as Radiology Technologist at several of the area hospitals in Louisville. It is my dream career to become a pilot and am ready to set forth in the necessary training to fulfill this dream but with only one small factor standing in the way. How to raise the funds necessary to learn to fly.

I have chosen to attend the Airline Career Pilot Program offered through Airline Transport Professionals, ATP for short. Go to www.atpflightschool.com. I have had several recommendations from other pilots that are well into their careers and that know the company's reputation. The program offers a prospective student to complete all necessary certificates in just 150 days. After the program, ATP guarantees employment as a Certified Flight Instructor as means to build up the necessary hours to land a job in the cockpit with a commercial airline. The total cost for a student with no flying experience is just shy of $60,000. ATP offers financing for their program through student loans from Sallie Mae and Wells Fargo. Almost every student is required to have a cosigner and I have exhausted my options of potential friends and family that might consider having their name on the loan. Times are tough and not many people are willing to take a risk that big in these uncertain economic times, assuming they have the credit good enough to be considered. For this reason I have chosen to take another route.

I am asking for donations from anyone that shares my love of flying and knows the hardships in getting started in a new career.

I am not one to ask for handouts ever but at this point I have nowhere else to turn. If you or anyone else you might know would be willing to cosign for me to attend this school I would be more than willing to pay for my course's loan payments on a monthly basis. Sallie Mae and Wells Fargo offer a cosigner release after 12 months of continuous on time payments. Thank you for your contribution.

Recent news has foretasted a pilot shortage of nearly a half a million in the upcoming 10-20 years. This comes due to several factors. Of these factors is an anticipated wave of retiring pilots, tougher industry standards requiring 1500 hours of flight time before considered for employment, and the great financial burden in the costs of students learning to fly.Click here to read more of the upcoming pilot shortage.
