The Forever Family Walk

Donation protected
The Forever Family Walk is a 30 state, social media based walk raising awareness for children in the foster care /adoption systems and at-risk youth in the U.S.

A 501 (c)3 walk, the route is determined by non-profit organizations who've agreed to  be interviewed and have their work and programs spotlit while discussing the demographics of children in their respective areas. The Forever Family Walk is the first cross country walk to raise a social media platform for this cause.

The walk is set up into two separate legs:

The 1st leg travels the northern states of America from Virginia to California including WV, OH, KY, IN, IL, MO, KS, NE, CO, WY, UT and NV.

The 2nd leg travels the southern states of America from California to NYC including AZ, NM, TX, OK, AR, TN, AL, GA, SC, NC, VA, MD, PA, NJ and finally, NYC.

The goal of the  Walk is to call awareness to the issues in a foster care system that lacks a unified set of guidelines nationwide, work to reduce the number of at risk youth in the U.S. by connecting various organizations together to build stronger programs and to increase the support for current and aged out youth to be able to achieve the academic and social successes that otherwise remain out of there reach due to circumstances beyond their control. It is a tedious challenge but worthy.  Budget wise, decreasing the number of children in foster care, group homes and transitional/independent living can save the United States about $3-6 billion dollars annually.

While I understand that the term "Forever Family" refers to a family setting, I believe that it is also very important to show that the Forever Family must extend beyond the family ties.

For this walk, a GoFundMe.com account has been set up to support the basic living and survival needs needed to complete the entire walk.

At the end of the walk, all the money left in the gofundme account will be immediately donated to a yet to be determined non-profit organization benefiting the needs of foster and at-risk youth.

The estimated length of time for this walk is currently two years beginning August 2015 and ending early 2018.
