School Section Lake Pavilion

Donation protected
Remus Area Historical Society (RAHS) is leading a community wide effort to restore the historic 85 year old Stone Pavilion within School Section Lake Veterans Park. Built as a 1931 WPA project, it is a fixture of our heritage as a cultural landmark. If only those walls could talk! It could tell stories of Veteran celebrations, 4th of July activities, family gatherings, employee picnics, ball games, swimming lessons, campers, canoes, school children outings and many firs...t dates for lovers!

As a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the area’s historical resources, RAHS is the fundraising arm for a collaboration that includes the Friends of School Section Lake Veterans Park – a citizen’s effort, the Mecosta County Parks Commission – the park stewards, among others - including the Old Settlers Reunion held at the park annually since 1890.

Even though the Stone Pavilion needs repairs, the structure of the building is extremely sound –as verified by licensed contractors and stone masons. The total cost of the roof, windows, stone and landscaping renovation is $75,000; to date over $15,000 has been raised since October – primarily gifts from area families, grants and proceeds from fundraisers.
