Lexi's Esight Journey!!

Donation protected
Lexi is my greatest gift. She approaches every day with excitement and I’m constantly amazed by her enthusiasm for life. At 13 years old, she is incredible with technology and her mind is constantly trying to solve problems and understand new things. She loves to listen to YouTube videos that teach her how to do some pretty incredible things; she can even tell you how to preform intubation, the benefits and treatment of Afib and how to perform CPR!

The reason she needs to listen to everyone is because Lexi has almost no sight.

She was born very prematurely and the doctors were afraid that she would be completely blind. She developed a disease called retinopathy of prematurity which detached her retinas. After two very lengthy surgeries her retinas we reattached and she was able to regain some of her sight, it is by no means as clear as the sight that you or I have. She is able to see only colors, shadows and large font letters a few inches from her face. The rest of the world is simply just a blur. At school, Lexi has a hard time keeping up with school work and staying engaged in the classroom because the majority of it is visual and reading-based, something she obviously has extreme difficulty with.

When Lexi ran to me and told me about “magic glasses that can make the blind see" on a YouTube video, called eSight, I didn’t want to get our hopes up. We were always told that nothing could improve her vision and in fact it may get worse. I than started researching and We were able to make an appointment for Lexi to try on these newly invented electronic glasses on June 12, 2015. For the first time in her life, she was able to see my face, tell me what I was wearing from over 10ft away, and pick up on things around her that she had only heard about, but never really seen. She read letters off of an eye chart 10ft away and pointed out that her Pop-pop had , "really really grey hair." At that moment I started to see that Lexi's life was about to change!

With the eSight glasses, Lexi will be able to actually take part in school in a way that she never has before! Every day she leaves the house, It breaks my heart thinking about the little things she misses out on. With the glasses, she’ll be able to keep up with her classmates and become more engaged in the world around her. She’s always been interested in medicine and technology, but this will give her the chance to actually study those subjects in the future instead of simply listening to videos.

If I could, I would give Lexi the world. In the short term, I want to do everything I can to give her sight. These glasses are expensive, $15,000 and unfortunately, Not covered by any insurance. Anything you may be able to donate to help us get her these life-changing glasses would be simply amazing and greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you all so much in advance. I can't wait to see how these glasses will begin to change our world!
