Haiti Mission Trip - Part 3
Donation protected
This is me turning a bunch of Haition kids into Longhorn fans.
I've done this twice, with varying success, but somehow I feel not EVERYONE has gotten the message. So I'm going back to Haiti this summer - because you know what they say about the third time? (It's a charm. That's what they say.)
Oh - here are a few other things I like to do when in Haiti:
Teach some kids some songs about Jesus
Have dance parties
Play soccer and try not to get hurt
Eat goat and plantains
Complain about lack of diet coke
Complain about missing my cats
Remember how cool headlamps are
And oh yeah,
Build a church
I am excited to be returning with a team to Yvon, Haiti, about 100 or so miles out from Port Au Prince. In 2010 an earthquake registering 7.0 struck Haiti, and an estimated 300,000 people lost their lives. Years later, rebuilding is still underway.
Two years ago I was part of a team that was among the first to work in Yvon. We hauled concrete and rocks and laid the foundation of the church there. (Their old church is damaged beyond repair). In less than a month, I will join a team from Lovers Lane UMC to return as one of the final teams to work in Yvon. I am excited about the team I've traveling with, the friends I made two years ago I get to see again, and seeing the progress made over the last two years as dozens of teams and hundreds of people have contributed to the rebuild of this site.
Our team of 13 departs on July 4 and will return on July 11. I am honored to serve alongside some amazing people, including 3 teenage girls I have spent several fun-filled years with as they have grown up in the youth group. We ask for your support as we travel. Financial contributions are welcome, but more than anything I ask for your prayers and support. Also, if you want to feed and play with my cats while I'm gone, I promise you it will be one of the most rewarding things you do in your life.
Thanks for your support!
