Out of Options

Last October my boyfriend (pictured above with our cat Horus when he was a kitten) was laid off from his job. Thankfully we had plenty in savings to stay on our feet long enough for him to find work elsewhere.

Or so we thought, anyway. As of right now we have enough to pay rent for August, but not enough to pay bills in the second half of the month. Then there's the rent for September that we still don't know if we'll have. We're locked into our lease, and buying out of it is not an option.

We did the math, and moving would be more expensive than staying. Once our lease is up here we do plan to move to a cheaper place, though. By this time this year we were supposed to be getting ready to move into a house, but our plans got severely sidetracked when he got laid off.

We dislike having to turn to friends, family, and strangers for help. Yet here we are, because if we don't get help soon we'll end up homeless. Wes is supposed to start working for Lyft in the next week or two, but he has to jump through some hoops first. Including getting a business license so he can drive in Portland.

We're going through our stuff, and planning to have a garage sale to raise some funds as well. Hoping to do that by this weekend, but with my health in such poor shape it has been slow going. Wes has a few potential job options lined up, but no idea if he'll get hired.

This fundraiser will give us enough funds to cover rent for August & September, and cover our bills for both months as well. Due to some really crappy events I ended up homeless many many years ago. I didn't enjoy that time, but I can't say it was the worst experience of my life.

I can survive on the streets if I have to (maybe not as easily as before given my medical conditions), but we have two cats that don't deserve to suffer. I'll do anything to protect them. They're more than pets. They're family. They're my babies. As silly as that may sound it's how I feel, and I'm really hoping that this fundraiser works.

Mostly I'm hoping a job comes along, because that's always preferred. But in the meantime I'm hoping we can at least raise enough to have one more month of hope. Thank you for your time.

Our cats Horus (left) & Bastet (right). Both rescued from local shelters, and both are very much loved.
