Walter Coupe Scholarship Fund

Donation protected
This scholarship fund is being established to honor the educational legacy of Walter Coupe, long time educator in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District.

Walter Coupe was the first male elementary school teacher in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District. Walter spent virtually his entire working life as an educator in the Mamaroneck Public Schools. Over the years he taught fourth, fifth and sixth grades at Chatsworth Avenue and Murray Avenue Schools, and later became assistant principal at Mamaroneck Avenue School, and finally achieved his dream job - principal at Murray Avenue School. As a principal, he viewed himself as the “principle teacher” and continued to spend as much time in the classroom as his schedule would allow. He also loved to venture out on the playground at lunchtime and play kickball, shoot hoops and interact with the students.

Walter was the husband of Joan Brett Coupe, who pre-deceased him. He is the father of seven, grandfather of 13, and great-grandfather of 1. He was an active participant in his community and church throughout his life.

Walter was diagnosed with Dementia several years ago and has suffered a few strokes in the last year. In his discussions with his children about his legacy – setting up this scholarship was among his requests.

The family is working with the Mamoroneck UFSD to establish an annual scholarship for first generation college attendees. If you prefer to send a check, you may make it payable to the Mamaroneck UFSD and send it to Clare Coupe Scott, 4851 Aziza Road, New Tripoli, PA 18066.
