Local High School Solar Project

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jason Carney and I'm passionate about all things sustainable but particularly solar energy. As an African-American, I am also passionate about solutions to the disadvantages that are found in communities of color. I've found that many times solutions are very near us. When faced with various challenges, instead of looking down we should look up!

I'd like to solicit your support for my graduate school project to construct a 10kW solar array at a local high school to serve as an educational tool for the students in the Academy of Alternative Energy, Sustainability and Logistics. Here's a brief summary of what we're trying to do:

Vision: Educate minority communities and students on the benefits of harnessing solar energy and its potential as a solution to issues such as volatile energy costs, pollution and unemployment.

Mission: Design and build a ground mount solar array at local high school that serves Academy students through “hands-on training” and “applied learning opportunities” as required by the Academies of Nashville.

Strategy: Create a public-private partnership to achieve the goal by engaging community organizations, business, and education to work together to provide funding, materials, and manpower to build and maintain the solar farm and offer curriculum/ training/ supervision for students to engage in the building and maintenance of the solar array.

Benefits:
- Reduced carbon footprint at the school.
- Savings on electical demand.
- Expose/Engage disadvantaged youth to careers that help slow the affects of climate change.
- Unify a diverse community.

Cost:
The project is currently valued at $42,200. We currently have a commitment of 10kW of panels by The Brian D. Robertson Memorial Foundation valued at $9000 and up to $5000 of engineering and expertise by a local solar installation company. Other donations are coming in. If we could raise at least $20000 through GoFundMe, I believe we can could get the rest through material and equipment donations. Any overage donated will go to the Academy for scholarships, field trips, etc. Thanks in advance.

Yours truly,
Jason Carney
