Hi dear funders
I am an independent scientist (read unemployed!) trying to help save sharks and rays around the world with my humble conservation research. Currently I have two projects -in which I am working without pay- tagging manta rays in Brazil and Mexico to learn more about their habitat needs, main human-induced threats, and basic ecology.
Last week, while on my current expedition in the Mexican Caribbean to deploy satellite tags on Atlantic devil rays (a kind of manta ray), I tragically lost my only drone at sea during work, due to a mix of human error and misfortune...
It was very hard to get the funds to buy the drone last March, and it has proven to be a valuable and essential tool for my research. I am devastated by this accidental loss and we can't continue my research as effectively as before without this equipment.
Since I am unemployed and without a salary, my volunteer work to help save these magnificent marine animals is very difficult to carry out without the support of donors like you.
Me and the manta rays will be hugely grateful to you for years to come if you could please help us replace our drone that went MIA... I need to buy a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced drone with two extra batteries, two extra sets of propellers, a carrying case and accident insurance as soon as possible.
