Wayne County Band DC Performance

Donation protected
On May 29, 2017, the Wayne County High School Band will be representing the state of Mississippi in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington D.C. by the invitation of United States Congressman Steven Palazzo. The band’s performance will be televised on a live national broadcast.

The students have a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience all that our nation’s capital has to offer. On the first two days in Washington, we are scheduled to visit the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Ford’s Theater, the Petersen House, the Lincoln memorial, Korean memorial, MLK Jr. memorial, Vietnam memorial, and WWII memorial.

On Sunday, the band will visit Arlington National Cemetery and will have the honor of participating in the Wreath Laying ceremony, as well as witness the Changing of the Guard ritual. Later that night, they will be in attendance at the National Memorial Day Concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol featuring the National Symphony Orchestra which will be broadcast live on PBS. The educational benefits of this trip are countless.

As you can imagine, travel expenses for this endeavor are high and the band program is dedicated to ensuring the students have the best experience possible. Each student has been working very hard to raise funds for this trip. The expense for this trip for our students and parents is approximately $67,000. We would be forever greatful to anyone who helps us get to this performance of a lifetime!
