Walk Across NJ - Supporting the ADI

In March of 2015, after over a year of planning, the Anxiety & Depression Initiative (ADI) was born to promote the use of physical activity as a way to alleviate the symptoms of anxiety and depression. It is a simple concept with the potential for profound impact.

The goals of the ADI is to educate the community about the benefits of physical activity on mental health, provide opportunities to participate in physical activities with others in their peer group and to work toward finding a way to integrate the worlds of mental and physical health.

These are broad, but achievable goals the depend at its foundation on the financial support of our community to keep it going. Last year the founding Trustees embarked on a long bike ride from the George Washington Bridge, pedaling north 82 miles along Route 9 to just north of Kingston. Though this gesture, they demonstrated their commitment to the ADI and physical activity.

This year they are reaffirming their commitment to this cause by walking. Walking from the George Washington Bridge, west for 77 miles to the Delaware Memorial Bridge, that is. If all goes well, this “walk” will begin on September 9th and will go a total of more than 26 hours on their feet, that will likely be blistered and sore. However, their commitment to the ADI, and its mission, will carry them through.
