Put me to work this summer! Put me to work writing, put me to work editing, or put me to work consulting!
My name is ire'ne lara silva. I'm a poet/writer in Austin, TX and the author of 'furia' and 'flesh to bone.'
I'm asking for your support because I really need to spend this summer working on various writing projects as opposed to working two jobs and putting the writing on hold. For most of the past twelve years, I've worked at least 60 hours a week while still writing. I work full time as a customer service clerk at my local county courthouse. And in order to make ends meet, I've also worked part time jobs in retail, food service, and customer service, as a housekeeper and as caregiver for the disabled for $7-$12/hour. It's only in the past year that I've started transitioning to receiving income from speaking engagements and editing/consulting work. Unfortunately, the pickings are slim this summer.
So please help me by putting me to work--please take a glance at the reward packages and see if you'd be interested in receiving my current and future books or if i can help you with any editing or consulting work.
My current writing projects:
Blood Sugar Canto, a collection of poetry about diabetes, family, community, and healing, will be published in January 2016.
Song of the Burning Woman, a collection of short stories about women's bodies, spirituality, sexuality, and healing the wounds of the conquest. (working on the first drafts!)
Anthology of essays on the Border to be published in November 2016. (I'm co-editing!)
For the future, I'm also putting together notes for another poetry collection and my first novel.
I'm requesting $2400....$1800 to cover the $600 I'm short monthly to cover living/medical expenses (July, August, September)...and $600 to cover the costs of books and shipping/handling for donor gifts.
