Dena's Medical Fund

Dena has been a Reading Specialist at Pomelo Elementary in West Hills, CA for over eighteen years and has two adult daughters, Karla and Sarah, whom she is very proud of. She loves watching NASCAR, traveling, shopping and caring for animals.

Dena has always been an animal lover. She and her daughters began volunteering at Boxer Rescue Los Angeles (BRLA) in 2011. Since then, Dena has become passionate about volunteering, dedicating herself to the wellbeing of BRLA dogs as they wait to be adopted. Most weekends you will find her at the rescue, making sure dogs get walked, get some playtime and lots of affection. She has a soft spot for the "tough dogs," the ones that are in need of a little more training, love and understanding. She works patiently with them, hoping that one day that special family will come and make them a part of their family. She fell in love and adopted one of those tough dogs named Broadway, who is now enjoying his forever home with her and her daughters, along with a mini Shnauzer named Fran and cats, Buddy and Harley.

On May 16, 2015, Dena was at BRLA volunteering. While walking a dog, the dog turned on her unexpectedly and she sustained injuries to both of her arms that required hospitalization. Although she spent two weeks in the hospital enduring painful surgeries on her arms, she kept a positive attitude throughout, never letting anything get her down. She even talked about how she could still help at the rescue while both of her arms are in casts. She is one tough lady.

Our family of fellow volunteers at the rescue are rallying around Dena and are optimistic that she will make a complete recovery. We know that Dena is up for the challenge and will get stronger everyday with the hopes of getting back to the rescue and to the dogs that she loves. We’ve started this campaign to help offset Dena’s medical bills. She has a long road ahead of her and will require ongoing medical treatment and physical therapy. Please consider donating to help pay for her ever growing medical bills. Any amount, great or small, is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generosity, thoughts and prayers.
