Girls : Better after Quake in Nepal
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
I travelled to Nepal, my home country just few days after the life threatening earthquake, 9 months after I had come to USA for a fellowship.
I travelled to suburbs and many highly affected areas of Nepal. The suburbs, that are not rural enough to fancy any donors, and not urban enough to have access to resources, were the worst hit. The programs targetted at women, children or youth do not dive deep to reach them. It was disheartening to see the city, that had so many memories, turn flat. But what amazed me the most were the adolescent girls, around 10-15 years, leading their community. They were so confident, so passionate and leading their community, when most of the men were away as labor forces to other countries.
Sadly, they will very soon have to drop out of schools, get married as child brides, get sexually harassed or trafficked. News are coming up from everywhere of these girls being sold!
Only if we could retain them in schools, only if we could give them stationeries to support their education. What if we could build a peer support network for them and retain their confidence and passion?
After the quake, me and my friends, who have worked with girls in Nepal earlier, got determined to start a new initiative, we call it Visible Impact. We are starting with one of the badly hit village: Kharanitar of Nuwakot district. One by one, we will change the life of these girls and help them to rise them better.
We will help these girls with their education by providing them school support and additional tutoring, we will train them for leadership, community development, health and entrepreneurship; we will convince their parents and not to get them married off, and communities to serve as safety net for them. We will provide them community safe spaces where they can be themselves.
We need 200 USD to change the life of a girl. We need USD 10,000 to change life of 50 other girls of her village.
If you believe that together we can, please support us.
